Background: We developed a machine learning (ML) model to predict the risk of lymph node metastasis (LNM) in patients with early gastric cancer (EGC) who did not meet the existing Japanese endoscopic curability criteria and compared its performance with that of the most common clinical risk scoring system, the eCura system.

Methods: We used data from 4,042 consecutive patients with EGC from 21 institutions who underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and/or surgery between 2010 and 2021. All resected EGCs were histologically confirmed not to satisfy the current Japanese endoscopic curability criteria.

In Japan, cancer genome profiling (CGP) for cancer patients without standard treatment has been covered by public insurance since June 2019. This study analyzed data of 122 patients with gastrointestinal tumors who underwent CGP to clarify cancer genome medicine's current status and possible problems at the Tokushima University Hospital. The major types of cancer included pancreatic (n=30), colorectal (n=25), biliary tract (n=15), gastric (n=11), and hepatocellular carcinoma (n=8).

Association between Urinary Creatinine Excretion and Hypothyroidism in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease.

While hypothyroidism increases serum creatinine (Cr) levels, it is uncertain whether the elevation is mediated via a decline in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) or the reflection of enhanced Cr production from the muscles or both. In the present study, we explored an association between urinary Cr excretion rate (CER) and hypothyroidism. A total of 553 patients with chronic kidney disease were enrolled in a cross-sectional study.

Co-occurrence of Three Systemic Diseases: ANCA-associated Vasculitis, Sjögren's syndrome and Sarcoidosis.

Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV), Sjögren's syndrome (SjS), and sarcoidosis are systemic diseases targeting multiple organs. While a careful differential diagnosis of these diseases is often required, their co-occurrence in the same patient has been previously reported. We herein report a 58-year-old Japanese man diagnosed with the co-occurrence of three systemic diseases (AAV, SjS, and sarcoidosis) in addition to monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS), which emphasizes the importance of considering the possible co-occurrence of these diseases as well as their differentiation.

Introduction: While it is well known that thyroid function may affect kidney function, the transition of the chronic kidney disease (CKD) status before and after treatment for thyroid disorders, as well as the factors affecting this change, remains to be explored. In the present study, we focused on the change in kidney function and their affecting factors during the treatment for both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.

Methods: Eighty-eight patients with hyperthyroidism and fifty-two patients with hypothyroidism were enrolled in a retrospective and longitudinal case series to analyze the changes in kidney function and their affecting factors after treatment for thyroid disorders.

Kidney organoid derived from renal tissue stem cells is a useful tool for histopathological assessment of nephrotoxicity in a cisplatin-induced acute renal tubular injury model.

Organoids derived from renal tissue stem cells (KS cells) isolated from the S3 segment of adult rat nephrons have previously been developed and evaluated. However, data regarding the histopathological evaluation of these organoids are limited. Therefore, in this study, we performed histopathological examinations of the properties of these organoids and evaluated the nephrotoxicity changes induced by cisplatin treatment.

Background And Aim: The aim of this post-hoc analysis in a randomized, controlled, multicenter trial was to evaluate the visibility of upper gastrointestinal (UGI) neoplasms detected using linked color imaging (LCI) compared with those detected using white light imaging (WLI).

Methods: The visibility of the detected UGI neoplasm images obtained using both WLI and LCI was subjectively reviewed, and the median color difference (ΔE) between each lesion and the surrounding mucosa according to the CIE L*a*b* color space was evaluated objectively. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify factors associated with neoplasms that were missed under WLI and detected under LCI.
