Surgical treatment for locally advanced gastric cancer remains controversial, and many still question the benefits of extended resection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of combined resection of the involved organs with regard to survival in patients with gastric cancer. Between 1993 and 2000, among the 1638 patients with gastric cancer who underwent gastrectomy, 82 were found to have evidence of adjacent organ spread at laparotomy.

We have sometimes encountered invasive ductal carcinomas (IDCs) of the pancreas containing intraductal carcinoma components in the intra- and / or extra-tumor area. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether intraductal carcinoma components would be useful for predicting the outcome of IDC patients. Forty-seven surgically treated IDCs were examined, and all histological tumor sections were stained with Elastica to accurately confirm intraductal carcinoma components.

Although neovascularization is regarded as an essential factor for tumor growth, it is unclear whether pancreatic adenocarcinoma is also influenced by this process. Furthermore, the reported microvessel count (MVC) data can not be compared due to the diversity of evaluating methods, and the relation between MVC data and metastatic potentials remains controversial. A total of 24 pancreatic adenocarcinomas and 24 adjacent non-cancerous pancreatic parenchyma were analyzed for MVC using anti-CD31 antibody.
