Article Synopsis
  • A study investigated the effectiveness of pancreatic juice cytology (PJC) through endoscopic naso-pancreatic drainage (ENPD-PJC) for diagnosing pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and high-grade pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HG-PanIN) when tumors aren't visible via endoscopic ultrasound (EUS).
  • The research involved evaluating data from patients with suspected PDAC/HG-PanIN, comparing various methods of PJC collection to determine which provided the most reliable results.
  • Findings showed that ENPD-PJC and a combined method (ERP/ENPD-PJC) had significantly higher sensitivity and accuracy for diagnosing these conditions compared to the standard ERP-PJC approach.

Background: Lynch-like syndrome (LLS) has recently been proposed as a third type of microsatellite instability (MSI) tumor after Lynch syndrome (LS) and sporadic MSI colorectal cancer (CRC) without either a germline variant of mismatch repair (MMR) genes or hypermethylation of the MLH1 gene. The present study aimed to clarify and compare the clinicopathological characteristics of LLS with those of the other MSI CRC subtypes.

Methods: In total, 2634 consecutive patients with CRC who underwent surgical resection and subsequently received universal tumor screening (UTS), including MSI analysis were enrolled between January 2008 and November 2019.

Sarcomas with BCOR genetic alterations (BCOR-associated sarcomas) represent a recently recognized family of soft tissue and bone tumors characterized by BCOR fusion, BCOR internal tandem duplication, or YWHAE::NUTM2B fusion. Histologically, the tumors demonstrate oval to spindle cell proliferation in a variably vascular stroma and overexpression of BCOR and SATB2. Herein, we describe 3 soft tissue sarcomas with KDM2B fusions that phenotypically and epigenetically match BCOR-associated sarcomas.

Background/aim: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is considered a heterogeneous disease and achieving a pathological complete response (pCR) to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is considered a surrogate biomarker of a favorable prognosis. Previously, the TP53 signature (TP53sig)-score, the expression profile of 33 genes, has been reported to predict the prognosis of all types of early-stage breast cancer. Herein, we analyzed whether the TP53sig-score can be used to subclassify a TNBC cohort and investigated the molecular biological characteristics of the higher TP53sig-score.

Backgrounds And Objectives: Although pancreatic cancer (PC) has an extremely poor prognosis, the 5-year survival rate of patients with pancreatic high-grade precancerous lesion without invasive carcinoma (PHP) is favorable. PHP diagnosis and identification of patients requiring intervention are needed. We aimed to validate a modified PC detection scoring system regarding its detection ability for PHP and PC in the general population.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between Fusobacterium nucleatum infection and colorectal cancer (CRC) types, focusing on microsatellite instability (MSI).
  • Out of 179 CRC patients, 158 tested positive for F. nucleatum, with high loads found in both hereditary and sporadic MSI CRC, but also in microsatellite stable (MSS) cases; significant associations were observed with various clinical features.
  • Findings suggest that higher F. nucleatum levels in hereditary MSI CRC may pave the way for targeted prevention strategies for this cancer subtype.

CD70 - a ligand protein of CD27 on lymphocytes - is expressed in a large spectrum of malignancies. It is an attractive target for antibody-based therapy and several clinical trials are currently being conducted. However, there is no evidence regarding the expression of CD70 and its relationship with expression of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) and CD27+ tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL) in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues of thymic tumors.

Adenomyoepithelioma (AME) of the male breast is a rare tumor characterized by biphasic proliferation of gland epithelial cells and myoepithelial cells. Though pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is also known to be an epithelial-myoepithelial tumor in the breast, and these tumors are considered to exist on the same spectrum by some authors, to the best of our knowledge, there have been no reports of a clear transition from AME to PA in the male breast. Therefore, the case of an 85-year-old man with AME with PA-like components is presented.
