A reduction of visceral fat is important for improvement of metabolic risk. This study was designed to compare the effects of a web-based program alone or together with measurement and self-awareness of accumulated visceral fat in Japanese workers. A new noninvasive device to measure visceral fat accumulation was introduced, and efficacy on weight-loss and improvement of healthy behaviors were examined.

Context And Objective: Plasma arachidonate (20:4) levels in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) were investigated.

Methods: Plasma was extracted and free fatty acids (FFAs) were separated using column chromatography and measured by fluorescence. Plasma 20:4 levels and its percentage relative to total FFA levels (%20:4) were measured in COPD (n = 18) and control (n = 20) subjects.

Study Objectives: The percentage of oxidized coenzyme Q10 in total coenzyme Q10 (%CoQ-10) has been shown to indicate the degree of systemic oxidative stress. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is regarded as a systemic disease that is linked to oxidative stress in its pathogenesis.
