Inflammation is associated with injury to immature lungs, and melatonin administration to preterm newborns with acute respiratory distress improves pulmonary outcomes. We hypothesized that maternally administered melatonin may reduce inflammation, oxidative stress, and structural injury in fetal lung and help fetal lung maturation in a mouse model of intrauterine inflammation (IUI). The aim of the present study was to establish an integrated network of DNA methylation and RNA expression in an ovalbumin (OVA)‑induced asthma model, and to investigate the epigenetically‑regulated genes involved in asthma development. Genome‑wide CpG‑DNA methylation profiling was conducted through the use of a methylated DNA immunoprecipitation microarray and RNA sequencing was performed using three lung samples from mice with OVA‑induced asthma. Recent progress in the chemical vapor deposition technique toward growing large-area and single-crystalline two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) has resulted in an electronic/optoelectronic device performance that rivals that of their top-down counterparts, despite the extensive use of hydrogen, a common reducing agent that readily generates defects in TMDs. Herein, we report that 2D MoSe domains containing oxide seeds are resistant to hydrogen-induced defect generation. Specifically, we observed that the etching of the edges of seed-containing MoSe was significantly less than that of pristine MoSe, without apparent seed particles, under the same H annealing conditions.

The transcription factor nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor-2 (Nrf2) is known to induce neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects and is considered to be an excellent molecular target for drugs related to neurodegenerative disease therapy. Nrf2 activators previously tested in clinical trials were electrophilic, causing adverse effects due to non-selective and covalent modification of cellular thiols. In order to circumvent this issue, we constructed and screened a chemical library consisting of 241 pyrazolo [3,4-d] pyrimidine derivatives and discovered a novel, non-electrophilic compound: 1-benzyl-6-(methylthio)-N-(1-phenylethyl)-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine-4-amine (KKC080106).

A bioelectronic skin device based on nociceptive ion channels in nanovesicles is developed for the detection of chemical cold-pain stimuli and cold environments just like human somesthetic sensory systems. The human transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (hTRPA1) is involved in transmission and modulation of cold-pain sensations. In the bioelectronic skin, the nanovesicles containing the hTRPA1 nociceptive ion channel protein reacts to cold-pain stimuli, and it is electrically monitored through carbon nanotube transistor devices based on floating electrodes.

Postpartum working memory decline has been investigated mostly with neuropsychological tests, but neural evidence is almost unknown. Here we investigated task-related neural alterations during working memory task (n-back) and intrinsic alterations during resting-state (rs) in postpartum women using functional MRI (fMRI). A bioelectronic nose device based on micelle-stabilized olfactory receptors is developed for the selective discrimination of a butter flavor substance in commercial fermented alcoholic beverages. In this work, we have successfully overexpressed ODR-10, a type of olfactory receptor, from Caenorhabditis elegans using a bacterial expression system at a low cost and high productivity. The highly-purified ODR-10 was stabilized in micelle structures, and it was immobilized on a carbon nanotube field-effect transistor to build a bioelectronic nose for the detection of diacetyl, a butter flavor substance, via the specific interaction between diacetyl and ODR-10.
