Objectives: This study investigated the muscle fat fraction (FF) and muscle-related parameters before and after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).
Methods: Fat and water signals were derived from the in-phase and out-of-phase MR signal intensities of the pelvis and thigh using the two-point Dixon technique. They were analysed using Synapse Vincent, and muscle quality was evaluated using the FF.
Andexanet alfa neutralizes factor Xa inhibitors in critical bleeding situations. However, in cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), heparin resistance induced by andexanet alfa should be a concern, and the lack of point-of-care monitoring of plasma concentration of factor Xa inhibitors makes it difficult to decide when to administer andexanet alfa. Methods : Healthy older women (n = 17) and healthy young women (n = 18) were asked to perform SitTS and StandTS motions at a natural speed using a chair. We measured the ground reaction forces from the participants' feet and the chair, the angle of the trunk and ankle, vertical velocity, and postural muscle activities using a force plate, motion analyzer, and electromyography, respectively.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: This study aimed to assess the effect of home-based preoperative pulmonary rehabilitation (HBPPR) on the incidence of postoperative complications, length of stay (LOS), and duration of intercostal catheterization in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients who underwent lung resection.
Materials And Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 144 patients who underwent lung resection were recruited, 51 of whom received HBPPR, comprising respiratory muscle training and was supervised (for patients undergoing it for the first time). Patients continued these programs for 2-4 weeks during the preoperative waiting period, in their homes.
Background: The 6-minute walk distance (6MWD) is a simple way of assessing exercise capacity. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between preoperative 6MWD and long-term prognosis after esophagectomy.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study involved 108 patients who underwent radical esophagectomy for esophageal cancer between 2013 and 2020.
Objectives: In this study, we investigated the early and midterm outcomes of initial watch-and-wait strategy for Stanford type A intramural haematoma and acute aortic dissection with thrombosed false lumen of the ascending aorta in patients with a maximum aortic diameter of ≤50 mm, pain score of ≤3/10 and no ulcer-like projection in the ascending aorta.
Methods: Inpatient and outpatient records were retrospectively reviewed.
Results: Of the 81 patients with type A intramural haematoma and acute aortic dissection with the thrombosed false lumen of the ascending aorta between April 2011 and April 2019, a watch-and-wait strategy was selected in 46 patients.
Kinesiologic analysis of gait disorders, postural instabilities and abnormal movements is quite difficult to assess objectively by clinical observation, such as by specific scale and video recordings. In this study, we reported one of the aspects of the usefulness of three-dimensional motion analysis (Vicon Systems, Oxford, United Kingdom), which can measure inclusive data of movement disorders and substitute for conventional assessments. Tau-tubulin kinase 2 (TTBK2) is a Ser/Thr kinase that putatively phosphorylates residues Ser208 and Ser210 (numbered according to a 441-residue human tau isoform) in tau protein. Functional analyses revealed that a recombinant kinase domain (residues 1-331) of human TTBK2 expressed in insect cells with a baculovirus overexpression system retains kinase activity for tau protein. The crystal structures revealed that the pentaketide-producing wild-type and the octaketide-producing M207G mutant shared almost the same overall folding, and that the large-to-small substitution dramatically increases the volume of the polyketide-elongation tunnel by opening a gate to two hidden pockets behind the active site of the enzyme.
