Methods: A middle-aged male with hepatic IPT and peripheral eosinophilia associated with autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) was selected for this study and review of literature.
A new method for the quantitative evaluation of molecular interactions that are observed in electrophoresis is described. One component taking part in the interaction is labeled with a fluorescent dye and is subjected to capillary zone electrophoresis with fluorescence detection in the presence or absence of an unlabeled interacting component. Fluorescence signals are collected at constant time intervals, and the electropherograms are converted to represent the fluorescence signal against mobility.

HPLC analysis of the leaves of Glycyrrhiza plants collected in Kazakhstan showed that both G. uralensis-specific and Glycyrrhiza glabra-specific compounds were detected in the leaves of the morphologically intermediate-type plants, suggesting that the intermediate-type plant is a hybrid of G.

As a result of the survey during the 21 days of the movement-restriction period, two infected herds were detected and destroyed; there were no other cases in the months that followed. Chickens orally administered SCE (500 mg/kg/day) for 3 or 6 consecutive days at 1 week of age showed significantly higher body weight and gain in body weight/day and a lower food conversion ratio within the growing period of 6 weeks than physiological saline-administered control chickens. Furthermore, oral administration of SCE also resulted in significantly higher immune responses against sheep red blood cells and Brucella abortus.

To better understand the mechanisms behind proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), an important method in motor rehabilitation, we investigated the effects of assuming a PNF posture relative to a neutral posture on the initiation of voluntary movement (Experiment 1) and the excitability of the motor cortex (Experiment 2) using a wrist extension task. The initiation of voluntary wrist movement was operationalized in terms of the electromyographic reaction time (EMG-RT), and the excitability of the motor cortex in terms of motor evoked potentials (MEPs). Compared to the neutral position, we found that (1) the facilitation position changed the muscle discharge order enhancing the movement efficiency of the joint, (2) the facilitation position led to a reduction in EMG-RT, the magnitude of which depended on the proximity of the muscle to the movement joint, and (3) MEP amplitude increased and MEP latency decreased in the facilitation position as a function of the proximity of the muscle to the joint.

The affinity constants of recombinant human galectin-1 and galectin-3 for sugars were determined by capillary affinophoresis. The monoliganded affinophore contains p-aminophenyl-beta-lactoside as an affinity ligand in the matrix of succinylglutathione and has three negative charges. An analysis of the mobility change of the lectins caused by the affinophore and its inhibition by neutral sugars allowed, for the first time, a determination of the affinity constants between the binding sites of the lectins and sugars.

Transpapillary intraductal ultrasonography showed a cystic duct stump, from which a smooth and homogeneous hypoechoic mass arose; the adjacent bile duct wall had a normal structure. Intraductal ultrasonography is useful for distinguishing traumatic neuroma from bile duct carcinoma.

When an injection was carried out from a minimum of 20 microL of an aqueous solution beneath the oil overlay, no oil contamination inside the capillary was observed, provided the capillary was cleanly cut so that the end was flat, and the polyimide coating had been removed for a distance of about 2 mm from the end. Affinophoresis was carried out using 20 microL of an affinophore solution covered with an oil overlay.
