Introduction: Retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery for benign retroperitoneal tumors is often challenging because of variations in the tumor location and size. In this study, we present a retroperitoneal laparoscopic resection technique used at our institution to treat benign retroperitoneal tumors.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective case series included nine consecutive patients who underwent retroperitoneal laparoscopic tumor resection between 2011 and 2023.
Brown adipocytes are characterized by a high abundance of mitochondria, allowing them to consume fatty acids for heat production. Increasing the number of brown adipocytes is considered a promising strategy for combating obesity. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying their differentiation remain poorly understood.

This study reported the clinicopathological characteristics of patients with thyroid cancer diagnosed through the FHMS and treated at the Fukushima Medical University Hospital. Data regarding the clinicopathological characteristics of patients with thyroid cancer were collected and evaluated in this descriptive study.

EV is expected to be a candidate for the third-line treatment for urothelial carcinoma previously treated with platinum-based chemotherapy and PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors. Very few cases of patients experienced hyperglycemia of unknown cause.

We validated a modified enrichment broth that changes its color when group B Streptococcus (GBS) grows. No GBS was detected in any of the non-yellow samples. Thus, the non-yellow samples were considered GBS-negative without conducting further examinations, potentially reducing medical costs and workload.

We aimed to identify factors contributing to long-term estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) decline to determine an early diagnosis and prevent CKD progression.
Materials And Methods: From January 2003 to December 2006, 5,507 individuals underwent health checkups at our hospital's Preventive Medicine Research Center.
Aim: To conduct a post hoc subgroup analysis of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) from the RECAP study, who were treated with sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) combination therapy, focusing only on those patients who had chronic kidney disease (CKD), to examine whether the composite renal outcome differed between those who received SGLT2 inhibitor treatment first and those who received a GLP-1RA first.
Methods: We included 438 patients with CKD (GLP-1RA-first group, n = 223; SGLT2 inhibitor-first group, n = 215) from the 643 T2D patients in the RECAP study. The incidence of the composite renal outcome, defined as progression to macroalbuminuria and/or a ≥50% decrease in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), was analysed using a propensity score (PS)-matched model.
Background: Because of the proximity of several ligaments, aponeuroses, and capsule in the limited area of the elbow joint, the precise anatomy is difficult to understand. In the current narrative review, we focused on two anatomical perspectives: the capsular attachment and structures consisting of ligaments.
Methods: Based on the previously performed studies regarding the elbow anatomy, a narrative review was prepared in terms of the capsular attachment and structures consisting of ligaments.
Introduction: Distant metastasis of T1a renal cell carcinoma is rare and whether metastasis is more probable in patients undergoing hemodialysis remains unclear. We report the autopsy case of a patient undergoing hemodialysis with multiple metastases that rapidly progressed from T1a renal cell carcinoma treated with multimodal therapy including nivolumab.
Case Presentation: A 70-year-old male who underwent hemodialysis was diagnosed with clear cell carcinoma (pT1a, G2) after nephrectomy.
Lower urinary tract (LUT) function is controlled by the central nervous system, including higher-order cognitive brain regions. The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is one of these regions, but the role of its activity in LUT function remains poorly understood. In the present study, we conducted optogenetic experiments to manipulate neural activity in mouse ACC while monitoring bladder pressure to elucidate how the activity of ACC regulates LUT function.

Objective: We examined whether overweight in children and adolescents are associated with thyroid nodule development by sex and age.
Design: Approximately 300,000 participants who underwent thyroid ultrasonography in the Fukushima Health Management Survey after a nuclear accident were enrolled.
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the in vitro activity of tedizolid against several clinically significant species of Nocardia by comparing with that of linezolid. A total of 286 isolates of Nocardia species, including 236 clinical isolates recovered from patients in Japan and 50 strains (43 species) purchased from NITE Biological Resource Center, were studied. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed using the broth microdilution method.

Methods: In this retrospective multicenter study, 32 patients (24 women and 8 men) with a mean age of 63.
Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapies have broadened the armamentarium for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). As the ICI therapy spreads in the clinical settings, immune-related adverse events are more of a concern for clinicians. The present study reports three cases of mRCC treated with pembrolizumab plus axitinib and diagnosed hypopituitarism based on clinical symptoms and hormonal profile.

Case Presentation: We encountered a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old boy with intrascrotal tumors that penetrated the penile corpora cavernosa.
In potatoes, tuber secondary growth, especially sprouting, deforms the tubers and severely lowers their commercial value. Tuber sprouting is induced by signal substances, such as gibberellin (GA), which are transported to the tuber from the plant body. The molecular mechanism underlying GA-induced sprouting remains ambiguous.
