  • Researchers isolated a complex of ovotransferrin and lysozyme from egg white using an antibody-immobilized membrane after separating antiserum proteins.
  • The lysozyme retained its ability to break down bacterial cell walls and showed varying levels of activity in the presence of iron ions, with the ovotransferrin complex enhancing its activity.
  • This study suggests that combining ovotransferrin and lysozyme can be an effective strategy for controlling enzyme activity, particularly in the presence of iron ions.

Article Synopsis
  • Neuronal differentiation involves the development of neurons from stem cells and is crucial for neural function development and regeneration, with emerging evidence suggesting that thermal stimuli play a role in this process.
  • Researchers used infrared lasers to manipulate local intracellular temperatures in neuron-like PC12 cells, finding that increased temperatures promote neurite outgrowth, particularly in the nucleus.
  • The study also discovered that intracellular thermogenesis occurs during neuronal differentiation and is essential for neurite growth, suggesting that temperature changes influence the differentiation process through thermal signaling.

This study aimed to investigate the association between cognitive impairment and polypharmacy in patients with atrial fibrillation prone to cognitive decline, and to elucidate if the Dementia Assessment Sheet for Community-based Integrated Care System 21-Items (DASC-21) severity classification indicates drug adjustment. This retrospective cohort study used the DASC-21 and Diagnosis Procedure Combination data at a specialised geriatric hospital with patients hospitalised between April 2019 and March 2022. The association between cognitive severity evaluated using the DASC-21 and polypharmacy was investigated using a multivariate logistic regression model.

The phenoxyl radical binding copper complexes have been widely developed and their detailed geometric and electronic structures have been clarified. While many one-electron oxidized Cu-phenolate complexes have been reported previously, recent studies of the Cu-phenolate complexes proceed toward elucidation of the complexes with other oxidation states, such as the phenoxyl radical binding Cu complexes and Cu-phenolate complexes in the formal oxidation state. This Perspective focuses on new aspects of the properties and reactivities of various Cu-phenolate and Cu-phenoxyl radical complexes with emphasis on the relationship between geometric and electronic structures.

Background: Like its human counterpart, canine atopic dermatitis (cAD) is a chronic relapsing condition; thus, most cAD-affected dogs will require lifelong treatment to maintain an acceptable quality of life. A potential intervention is modulation of the composition of gut microbiota, and in fact, probiotic treatment has been proposed and tried in human atopic dermatitis (AD) patients. Since dogs are currently receiving intensive medical care, this will be the same option for dogs, while evidence of gut dysbiosis in cAD is still missing, although skin microbial profiling in cAD has been conducted in several studies.

Despite the widespread success in the functionalization of C(sp )-H bonds, the deliberate functionalization of C(sp )-H bonds in a highly site- and stereoselective manner remains a longstanding challenge. Herein, we report an iridium/aluminum cooperative catalytic system that enables the β-selective C-H borylation of saturated cyclic amines and lactams. Furthermore, we have accomplished an enantioselective variant using binaphthol-derived chiral aluminum catalysts to forge C-B bonds with high levels of stereocontrol.

Traditional vaccinations need to be injected with needles, and since some people have a strong aversion to needles, a needle-free alternative delivery system is important. In this study, we employed ionic liquids (ILs) for transcutaneous delivery of cancer antigen-derived peptides to obtain anticancer therapeutic effects in a needle-free manner. ILs successfully increased the in vitro skin permeability of a peptide from Wilms tumor 1 (WT1), one of the more promising cancer antigens, plus or minus an adjuvant, resiquimod (R848), a toll-like receptor 7 agonist.
