Fyn is a Src-family tyrosine kinase involved in neuronal development, transmission, and plasticity in mammalian central nervous system. We have previously reported that Fyn binds to a cytoskeletal protein, beta-adducin, in a phosphorylation-dependent manner. In the present report, we show that Fyn phosphorylates beta-adducin at tyrosine 489 located in its C-terminal tail domain.

In our hospital, a cyclophosphamide/adriamycin/cisplatin (CAP) regimen was commonly used as adjuvant chemotherapy. However, since October 1999 a paclitaxel/carboplatin regimen has been substituted for CAP.

Methods: In January 2003, the Tochigi Prefectural Kennan Public Health and Welfare Center introduced rapid HIV tests simultaneously with conventional HIV tests.
Cytoplasmic dynein is an AAA(+)-type molecular motor whose major components are two identical heavy chains containing six AAA(+) modules in tandem. It moves along a single microtubule in multiple steps which are accompanied with multiple ATP hydrolysis. This processive sliding is crucial for cargo transports in vivo.

Methods And Results: In the present study, 1,458 AMI patients were enrolled in the AMI-Kyoto Multi-Center Risk Study between January 2000 and December 2003. Of these, clinical characteristics and medium-term prognosis were retrospectively compared in 21 young patients < 40 years (young group), and 190 non-young patients 60-70 years old (non-young group) who could be followed after hospital discharge.
Reactions of trans-MCl2(P((CH2)6(CH=CH2)3)2 (M = a, Pd; b, Pt) and Grubbs' catalyst, followed by hydrogenation (ClRh(PPh3)3), give the title compounds trans-MCl2(P((CH2)14)3P) (2a, 37%; 2b, 43%). These react with LiBr, NaI, and KCN to give the corresponding MBr2, MI2, and M(CN)2 species (58-99%). 13C NMR data show that the MX2 moieties rapidly rotate within the diphosphine cage on the NMR time scale, even at -120 degrees C.

Echocardiography demonstrated left ventricular apical akinesis with ballooning and deformity of the anterior mitral leaflet becoming concave toward the left atrium. The acetylcholine provocation test induced diffuse coronary vasospasm in the distal segments of both right and left coronary arteries and reproduced severe mitral regurgitation.

SFKs have been implicated in epidermal growth factor (EGF) signaling, although their precise mechanisms of action in this pathway remain elusive. To address this issue, we focused on a membrane microdomain, lipid rafts, where SFKs are enriched.

Methods And Results: In the present study, 1651 AMI patients were enrolled in the AMI-Kyoto Multi-Center Risk Study between January 2000 and June 2004. Of these, the clinical background, risk factors, angiographic findings, acute results of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and in-hospital outcomes for 27 young patients <40 (young group), and 338 non-young patients 60
Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess and compare the sensitivity of power Doppler sonography, contrast-enhanced sonography, plain computed tomography (CT), and dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for detecting hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) nodules incompletely treated with transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE).
Methods: A total of 63 unresectable HCC nodules were examined in this study. The HCCs were treated with TAE.
Group A Streptococci (GAS) from patients with pharyngitis and skin infections were examined for T serotypes, emm types, and streptococcal pyrogenic exotoxin gene types. The results were summarized as follows: 1) T and emm types were determined in 130 GAS isolates obtained between 2000 and 2004. Among 85 throat isolates, predominant T/emm types were T12/emm12 (25%), T4/emm4 (19%), and T1/emm1 (14%).

A 79-year-old woman was diagnosed as right femoral vein thrombosis, and a retrievable Günther Tulip filter was deployed prior to a total knee replacement surgery. However, the patient developed septicemia due to Citrobacter freundii, followed by thrombocytopenia and retroperitoneal hemorrhage.

A one-shot multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was developed for detecting 12 virulence genes of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli. In order to differentiate between the five categories of diarrheagenic E. coli, we selected the target genes: stx1, stx2, and eaeA for enterohemorrhagic E.

GM43 harbored HIV-1 circulating recombinant form 01_AE with gross deletions in the nef/long terminal repeat (LTR) region. The sizes of the deletions increased progressively from 84 to >400 bp during the 5-year period.

He presented with measles-like exanthems on his face, trunk, and extremities. Deep red enanthems were seen on his left buccal mucosa opposite the premolar teeth, and whitish enanthems were seen on the buccal and gingival mucosa.

The hemodynamics in the vertebrobasilar artery (VBA) system were investigated in patients with vertebrobasilar insufficiency (VBI). Vertebral artery (VA) stump pressure and blood flows in the VA and common carotid artery (CCA) were intraoperatively measured in 45 patients who underwent surgical correction of the first segment of the VA (V1) for angiographic tortuosity, kinking, and/or stenosis manifesting as symptomatic VBI. The effects of changes in the systemic arterial blood pressure (SABP) induced by trimethaphan, phenylephrine, and cervical epidural anesthesia were also investigated.

Case: A 61-year-old female, who had been thought to be in a disease-free state after the initial treatment for stage IIIc fallopian tube adenocarcinoma, presented with severe headache, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. Brain CT and MRI revealed solitary metastatic lesion in the cerebrum, which was the only site of recurrence.

An aye-aye from a north-eastern population showed genetic relatedness to individuals of a north-western population and had a somewhat different repertoire from another north-eastern individual. These observations suggest that the extent of genetic variation in Mhc genes is not excessively small in the aye-aye in spite of recent rapid destruction of their habitat by human activities.
