Studies on the mode of action of synthetic diindolylmethane derivatives against triple negative breast cancer cells.

Diindolylmethane (DIM) is a metabolic product of indole-3-carbinol (I3C), the major phytochemicals present in cruciferous vegetables, which can modulate multiple signalling pathways in cancer. The present study deals with the mechanism of action of two synthetic biaryl conjugates of DIM in triple negative breast cancer cells. Out of 12 DIM derivatives tested, two compounds, DIM-1 and DIM-4, exhibit cytotoxicity with GI values of 9.

Distal renal tubular acidosis (dRTA) is a condition in which the kidneys are unable to acidify the urine to a pH < 5.5 in the presence of systemic metabolic acidosis.

Cold abscess of dental origin in a 7-year-old child.

Abscess related to an infected tooth is mostly associated with pyogenic infection, but sometimes, it can be asymptomatic and indicate a chronic condition. This case report shows cold abscess with a draining sinus due to dental origin. A 7-year-old female patient complained of pain with respect to grossly decayed tooth and recurrent swelling with no response to medications.

A bioactive peptide of 8595 Da was purified from the cell free supernatant of Lactococcus garvieae subsp. bovis BSN307 . MALDI MS/MS peptide mapping and the data base search displayed no significant similarity to any reported antimicrobial peptide of LAB.

In the present study, we have purified EAD from Neem seed and studied its anticancer potential in human cervical cancer (HeLa) cells. Cell proliferation inhibition studies indicated that the GI value of EAD is 7.

Physiological Root End Closure in a Traumatized Young Permanent Tooth Using Collagen Particles as Pulpal Dressing.

The management of traumatized young permanent teeth has always been a challenge to the clinician, considering the importance of retaining the vitality of the tooth. Recently, collagen particles have been successfully used as pulpotomy medicaments in primary teeth. This case report shows the use of collagen particles as pulpal dressing in a traumatized young permanent tooth of a nine-year-old child presenting with complicated fracture of young permanent left maxillary central incisor.

Prevalence of dental anomalies in deciduous dentition and its association with succedaneous dentition: A cross-sectional study of 4180 South Indian children.

Objective: The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of dental anomalies in primary dentition of Indian population.

Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 4180 children in the age of 2-6 years. Anomalies were classified based on Kreiborg criteria.

Antifungal, Anticancer and Aminopeptidase Inhibitory Potential of a Phenazine Compound Produced by BSN307.

A bioactive compound was purified from the culture medium of a new strain of BSN307 by solvent extraction followed by chromatographic techniques. This bioactive compound was identified to belong to phenazine class of compounds by MS, NMR and FTIR. The phenazine compound showed antifungal activity against , as well as by disc diffusion assay in addition to antioxidant potential as demonstrated by DPPH scavenging assay.

Anticancer activity of synthetic bis(indolyl)methane-ortho-biaryls against human cervical cancer (HeLa) cells.

Bis(indolyl)methane appended biaryls were designed, synthesized and evaluated in human cervical cancer cell lines (HeLa) for their anticancer activities and compared against normal rat cardiac myoblasts (H9C2) cells. Compounds 1-12 were synthesized, with variations in one of the phenyl unit, in a single step by condensation of biaryl-2-carbaldehydes with indole in the presence of para-toluenesulfonic acid. Compound 1 exhibited a GI50 value of 11.

2,4-Di-tert-butyl phenol as the antifungal, antioxidant bioactive purified from a newly isolated Lactococcus sp.

The volatile organic compound 2,4-di-tert-butyl phenol (2,4 DTBP) was purified from the cell free supernatant of a newly isolated Lactococcus sp. by solvent extraction and chromatographic techniques. Molecular characterization of the compound by ESI-MS, (1)H NMR and FTIR analysis revealed the structure, C14H22O.

Triple tooth in primary dentition: A proposed classification.

Triple teeth may result from fusion, gemination or concrescence causing transient esthetic and functional problems in primary dentition and retardation or alteration of development and eruption of permanent successors. We report an unusual case of a boy aged five with fusion among maxillary left primary central incisor, lateral incisor and a supernumerary tooth concomitant with agenesis of permanent lateral incisor. A review of literature on triple tooth was done along with a proposed classification of the triple teeth.

Informative promotional outcome on school teachers' knowledge about emergency management of dental trauma.

Aim: To assess awareness of school teachers concerning the emergency management of traumatized teeth.

Materials And Methods: This is a prospective intervention study conducted with 1000 teachers (500 urban, 500 rural) randomly selected from the entire government and private, primary (elementary) as well as secondary (high) schools of Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, India. Study was carried out in three phases; the first phase being an initial survey conducted to assess the existing knowledge of teachers on management of traumatic injuries by using self-administered questionnaire.

Concomitant solitary median maxillary central incisor and fused right mandibular incisor in primary dentition.

Solitary median maxillary central incisor (SMMCI) is a unique developmental anomaly in primary dentition. It involves central incisor tooth germs and may or may not be associated with other anomalies. Its presence, concomitant with fusion of right mandibular incisors has not previously been reported.

Hypohyperdontia: Agenesis of three third molars and mandibular centrals associated with midline supernumerary tooth in mandible.

Agenesis of teeth in a patient who also presents with a supernumerary tooth is one of the rare numerical anomalies in human dentition. Agenesis of third molars was shown to be associated with other missing permanent teeth. A review of literature on hypodontia including third molar agenesis, hyperdontia and a concomitant presence of these two conditions which is termed as hypohyperdontia is presented along with a case showing agenesis of three third molars, both mandibular central incisors and a midline supernumerary tooth.

A 29-year-old lady with a bad obstetric history and portal vein thrombosis, presented to the Skin OPD for facial lesions. On examination, angiofibromas on face, shagreen patch and periungual fibromas were observed. She also had dental pits and a retinal hamartoma.
