This paper briefly reviews the ways of activation of the antitumor resistance mechanisms developed on the basis of the concept of the periodic system of general nonspecific adaptational reactions of the body. The principles of the formation of effective influences by electromagnetic radiation using biologically active substances are described. A comparison of the criteria and conceptions of the theory of adaptational reactions to some concepts and categories of synergetics is made.

The differences in the type and tension of the general unspecific adaptational reactions in cancer patients with varying prevalence of the process in biliopancreaticoduodenal zone and volume of surgical intervention were revealed. This paper presents a brief overview of the results of the original researches of biological responses induced by agents of cytostatic and regulatory actions in small doses, as well as weak electromagnetic radiation of different frequency bands. The possibility of obtaining the expressed antitumor, antistress and geroprotective effects has been shown. Blood was sampled from the caudal vein of rats, incubated with cyclophosphamide with autoblood, exposed to red light (0.31 Jcm2) and re-injected into the femoral vein. Lighting in conjunction with the antitumor action of the drug was followed by significant inhibition of large-size tumors, longer survival and development of integral criteria which describe cumulative antitumor effect.

Our investigation deals with prognosis of antitumor action of optical alternating magnetic field. It is designed to stimulate bioadaptive mechanisms taking place in peripheral blood from animals bearing Pliss' tumor. The potential of increased antitumor effect of cyclophosphane used in conjunction with low-energy infra-red laser radiation was studied in sarcoma-45--bearing rats. Exposure to certain modes stimulated non-specific antitumor resistance and enhanced antitumor influence of the drug by reducing its damaging effect. Also, it inhibited refractory leukopenia and marked intoxication induced by antistressor reactions.

Peripheral blood was sampled for cytochemical assay of cationic proteins from three groups of animals--intact ones, those with tumor C45 and bearers of the same tumor treated with helium-laser radiation and chemotherapy. Radiotherapy involved such manifestations of enhanced nonspecific antitumor resistance and, in particular, mobilization of the cellular component, as increased number of neutrophils containing cationic protein granules and relatively high levels of such proteins in them. Cytochemical assay of cationic proteins in neutrophil granules may serve as a criterion of nonspecific antitumor resistance assessment.

The study deals with the possible effects of ultra low frequency magnetic fields (ULF MF) on carcinogenesis in the brain and oxidative metabolism disorders associated with it. Animals were exposed to modulated ULF MF at pathogenetically-sensitive stages of the "biochemical restructuring" of the body. The morphofunctional state of lymphatic nodes, thyroid gland and testis have been studied with morphometric, cell photometric and biochemical methods in experiments on adult white rats under the influence of nonspecific adaptation stress and activation reactions caused by small doses of adrenaline (125 mg/kg and 5 mg/kg). The research showed that the changes in the structure and function of the lymphatic organs under stress and activation were markedly different. If stress results in depression of functional state of these organs, the activation reaction, on the contrary, stimulates it.

Various functional states of cells of sarcoma 45 in the course of its growth and regression were studied by photometry and spectral analysis using acridine orange. The antitumor effect of common nonspecific adaptation reactions of training and activation, obtained by small doses of adrenaline, was studied in the experiments on white rats with sarcoma 45,3,4-benz/a/-pyrene induced tumors and Biskind ovary tumor. Total resorption of the tumor was noted in all cases (55 rats), in which histological investigation of the thymus, lymph nodes, endocrinous glands and white cell count evidenced the development of the activation reaction, while with the training reaction there was only some retardation of tumor growth (51 rats). When it proved impossible to overcome a "chronic" tumor stress (45 rats), no antitumor effect was gained.
