Phthalate isomers are key intermediates in the biodegradation of pollutants including waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics and plasticizers. So far, an increasing number of phthalate isomer-degrading strains have been isolated, and their degradation pathways show significant diversity. In this paper, we comprehensively review the current status of research on the degrading bacteria, degradation characteristics, aerobic and anaerobic degradation pathways, and degradation genes (clusters) of phthalate isomers, and discuss the current shortcomings and challenges.

The asymmetric reduction of α, β-unsaturated compounds conjugated with electron-withdrawing group by ene-reductases (ERs) is a valuable method for the synthesis of enantiopure chiral compounds. This study introduced an ER from Corynebacterium casei (CcER) which was heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3), and the purified recombinant CcER was characterized for its biocatalytic properties. Bipolar disorder (BD) is a severe mental disorder with various hypotheses regarding its pathogenesis. This article provides a summary of numerous studies on the variations in inflammatory cytokine levels in patients with BD and the effects of treatment with antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and antidepressants on these levels. Based on the panel data of 20,594 fourth- and fifth-grade students in the western provinces A and B in China, this paper analyzed the effect of boarding at school on the mental health of students using a combination of the propensity score matching (PSM) and difference-in-differences (DID) methods. The results showed that boarding had no significant effect on the mental health of students, but the tendency of loneliness among boarding school students was increased. Heterogeneity analysis found that fifth-grade students whose parents had both left home to work were more likely to have poorer mental health when boarding.
