Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is associated with impaired regenerative capacity and poor postoperative prognosis following hepatectomy. Previous research has highlighted the importance of the gut-liver axis in the physiological and pathological processes of the liver. However, the contribution of gut bacteria to the regeneration of livers with MAFLD and its metabolic regulatory mechanisms remain elusive.

Combining chemo/photodynamic therapy (CDT/PDT) to generate highly harmful reactive oxygen species and cause mitochondria dysfunction is considered a potential strategy to improve the efficiency of anticancer treatment. However, within tumor, the relatively deficient concentration of HO, hypoxic microenvironment, and overexpressed reduced glutathione (GSH) seriously suppress the efficacy of dynamic therapy. Herein, a multi-functional cascade nanoreactor, bovine serum albumin modified ZnO@CeO-ICG, is reported for remodeling tumor microenvironment (TME) to boost dynamic therapy and realize mitochondria dysfunction via reactive oxygen species (ROS) storm/Zn ions overload.

Background: This study focused on the aging mechanism and degradation of mechanical and structural features of elastodontic appliances (EA) under artificial and intraoral aging to achieve oral myofunctional therapy with particular removable silicone elastomer devices.

Materials And Methods: EAs artificially aged in saliva with different pH values were investigated through cyclic compression testing along with characterization techniques (Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), and characterization analysis was also performed on clinically retrieved EAs.

Results: Artificial aging was found to have minimal effect on the structural properties of EAs, and intraorally aged samples showed perceptible micro-morphology.

This study aimed to explore the potential bind of Receptor Activity-Modifying Protein 3 (RAMP3) with atypical chemokine receptor 2 (ACKR2), and their cooperative regulation on the degradation of the immunosuppressive chemokine CCL2 in the tumor microenvironment of HCC. Bioinformatic analysis was conducted using available bulk-tissue RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, and protein-protein interaction datasets. Human HCC cell line Huh7 and HepG2 and mouse HCC cell line Hepa1-6 were utilized for experiments.

Public health spatial data are often recorded at different spatial scales (or geographic regions/divisions) and over different correlated variables. Motivated by data from the Dartmouth Atlas Project, we consider jointly analyzing average annual percentages of diabetic Medicare enrollees who have taken the hemoglobin A1c and blood lipid tests, observed at the hospital service area (HSA) and county levels, respectively. Capitalizing on bivariate relationships between these two scales is not immediate as counties are not nested within HSAs.

Manipulating the local coordination environment of central metal atoms in single-atom catalysts (SACs) is a powerful strategy to exploit efficient SACs with optimal electronic structures for various applications. Herein, Co-SACs featured by Co single atoms with coordinating S atoms in the second shell dispersed in a nitrogen-doped carbon matrix have been developed toward the selective hydrogenation of halo-nitrobenzene. The location of the S atom in the model Co-SAC is verified through synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy and theoretical calculations.

Overgrazing and climate change are the main causes of grassland degradation, and grazing exclusion is one of the most common measures for restoring degraded grasslands worldwide. Soil fungi can respond rapidly to environmental stresses, but the response of different grassland types to grazing control has not been uniformly determined. Three grassland types (temperate desert, temperate steppe grassland, and mountain meadow) that were closed for grazing exclusion for 9 years were used to study the effects of grazing exclusion on soil nutrients as well as fungal community structure in the three grassland types.

Extensive investigations have proven the effectiveness of elastic binders in settling the challenge of structural damage posed by volume expansion of high-capacity anode used in nanoscale silicon. However, the sluggish ionic conductivity of polymer binder severely restricts the electrode reactions, making it unsuitable for practical applications. Inspired by the biological tissues with rapid neurotransmission and robust muscles, we propose a biomimetic binder that contains ionic conductive polymer (by polymerization reaction of poly(ethylene glycol) diglycidyl ether and polyethylenimine) and rigid polymer backbone (polyacrylic acid), which can effectively mitigate both Li-ion transport resistance and lithiation stress to stabilize the silicon nanoparticles during cycles.

Horticultural crops comprising fruit, vegetable, ornamental, beverage, medicinal and aromatic plants play essential roles in food security and human health, as well as landscaping. With the advances of sequencing technologies, genomes for hundreds of horticultural crops have been deciphered in recent years, providing a basis for understanding gene functions and regulatory networks and for the improvement of horticultural crops. However, these valuable genomic data are scattered in warehouses with various complex searching and displaying strategies, which increases learning and usage costs and makes comparative and functional genomic analyses across different horticultural crops very challenging.

Protein C (PC), a vitamin K-dependent serine protease zymogen in plasma, can be activated by thrombin-thrombomodulin(TM) complex, resulting in the formation of activated protein C (APC). APC functions to downregulate thrombin generation by inactivating active coagulation factors V(FVa) and VIII(FVIIIa). Deficiency in PC increases the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE).

The synergistic effect among flotation agents is why combined flotation agents exhibit superior performance compared to single flotation agents. This research investigates the influence of three surfactants with different charges of polar groups, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), and octanol, combined with dodecylamine (DDA), on quartz flotation. Through the implementation of flotation tests, bubble-particle adhesion induction time testing, gas-liquid two-phase foam properties testing, and surface tension testing, it is revealed that substituting part of the DDA with these surfactants can either enhance or at least maintain the quartz recovery, affect the adhesion induction time, reduce the surface tension of the flotation system, and change the foaming performance and foam stability, depending on their mole ratio in the combined collector.

Background: Protein C (PC) pathway serves as a major defense mechanism against thrombosis by the activation of PC through the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex and subsequent inactivation of the activated factor (F)V (FVa) and FVIII (FVIIIa) with the assistance of protein S, thereby contributing to hemostatic balance. We identified 2 unrelated patients who suffered from recurrent thrombosis and carried the same heterozygous mutation c.1153A>G, p.

Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has been recognized as a promising treatment for cancer due to its advantages of superior specificity, non-invasiveness, and deep tissue penetration. However, the antitumor effect of SDT remains restricted by the limited generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) due to the lack of highly efficient sonosensitizers. In this work, we developed the novel sonosensitizer Pt/CeOS by constructing oxygen defects through S doping and Pt loading .

Radiation therapy is a primary treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but its effectiveness can be diminished by various factors. The over-expression of PD-L1 has been identified as a critical reason for radiotherapy resistance. Previous studies have demonstrated that nifuroxazide exerts antitumor activity by damaging the Stat3 pathway, but its efficacy against PD-L1 has remained unclear.
