Article Synopsis
  • Transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) is a harmful coronavirus that can lead to deadly intestinal diseases in young pigs, particularly those under two weeks old, with a lethal outcome rate of 100%.
  • The research utilized monocyte-derived porcine dendritic cells (DCs) to examine how TGEV interacts with these important immune cells, revealing that TGEV can replicate in these cells while UV-inactivated TGEV cannot.
  • Findings showed that TGEV infection significantly raised the expression of SLA-DR, a crucial molecule for immune response, and that the ORF3b protein of TGEV enhances this expression at a transcriptional level, shedding light on the virus's pathogenic mechanisms.

As one of the most important swine enteropathogenic coronavirus, porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is the causative agent of an acute and devastating enteric disease that causes lethal watery diarrhea in suckling piglets. Recent progress in studying PEDV has revealed many intriguing findings on its prevalence and genetic evolution, rapid diagnosis, suppression of host gene expression, and suppression of the host innate immune system. Due to the continuous mutation of the PEDV genome, viral evasions from innate immune defenses and mixed infection with other coronaviruses, the spread of the virus is becoming wider and faster, making it even more necessary to prevent the infections caused by wild-type PEDV variants.

Background: The expression and activity of cytochrome P450 2B6 (CYP2B6) may be related to the metabolic associated fat liver disease (MAFLD). Since constitutive androstane receptor (CAR) is a classic transcriptional regulator of CYP2B6, and the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of CYP2B6 and CAR are both associated with adverse reactions of efavirenz, we hypothesized that genetic polymorphisms of CAR might also result in additional interindividual variability in CYP2B6. This study was devoted to explore the association between CYP2B6 and CAR SNPs and susceptibility to MAFLD.

Plant architecture is a major motif of plant diversity, and shoot branching patterns primarily determine the aerial architecture of plants. In this study, we identified an inbred pepper line with fewer lateral branches, 20C1734, which was free of lateral branches at the middle and upper nodes of the main stem with smooth and flat leaf axils. Successive leaf axil sections confirmed that in normal pepper plants, for either node n, P (Primordium n) < 1 cm and P < 1 cm were the critical periods between the identification of axillary meristems and the establishment of the region, whereas P < 1 cm was fully developed and formed a completely new organ.
