Purpose: To determine if the fatty infiltration of rotator cuff muscles, as measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) preoperatively and assessed using the Goutallier Fatty Degeneration Index (GFDI), can predict early post-operative shoulder stiffness (POSS) following rotator cuff repair (RCR).
Methods: This retrospective longitudinal cohort study included patients who underwent primary RCR, had available medical records, and underwent MRI before RCR between November 2012 and July 2022. Patients were excluded based on the following criteria: (1) preoperative shoulder stiffness, (2) additional procedures (e.
Background: Non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis is associated with airway pathogen colonization. We planned to investigate the inflammatory markers in patients with different airway pathogens and their correlation with disease severity.
Methods: We enrolled patients aged between 20 and 75 from October 2021 to August 2022.

Three-dimensional-printed assistive devices hold promise for improving writing abilities, yet factors influencing device selection and their impact on satisfaction and effectiveness remain unclear, especially in adults, as they are typically tested on children. The aim of this article is to assess the efficacy and satisfaction with a writing assistive device at different angles among individuals with brain injury and explore device selection factors. Twenty-six participants with brain injuries selected their preferred device angle.

Exercise interventions are promising treatments for musculoskeletal impairments in knee osteoarthritis (KOA). The purpose of this study was to identify the comparative effects of exercise monotherapy and its adjunct treatments on muscle volume and serum inflammation for older individuals with KOA.

Methods: This single-center, single-blind, randomized-controlled study involved patients undergoing surgery for degenerative spinal disorders.
Purpose: The combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions is strongly recommended by current guidelines for knee osteoarthritis. However, few systematic reviews have validated their combined efficacy. In this study, we investigated the effects of the combination of pharmacological agents and exercise on knee osteoarthritis.

However, the potential application of these microbial communities in chlorinated hydrocarbons bioremediation purposes such as trichloroethylene (TCE) has not yet been explored. Hence, this study investigated the mud volcano's microbial diversity functional potentiality in TCE degradation as well as their eco-physiological profiling using metabolic activity.

This rise has resulted in a growing challenge concerning the safety of water sources, particularly surface waters and marine environments. This comprehensive review delves into the multifaceted challenges presented by bacterial pathogens, emphasizing threads to human health within ground and surface waters, including marine ecosystems.

Protein supplementation has been demonstrated to augment efficacy of resistance training (RT) in elderly. This study compared the relative effects of different protein supplements on muscle mass, strength, and mobility outcomes in middle-aged and older individuals undergoing RT.

This study examined cross-sectional data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey with whole-body dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans. The data included age, gender, DXA-assessed body composition, and physical functional activity with performing daily tasks by questionnaire.

The chitosan played a crucial role as a chelating agent to facilitate the growth of related calcium phosphates. The synthesized porous composite microspheres exhibit a specific surface area of 38.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy of corticosteroid (CS) injection methods for frozen shoulder.
Data Sources: PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched up to May 6, 2023.
Study Selection: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that investigated CS injection methods for frozen shoulder were included.
Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of collagen derivatives for osteoarthritis.
Design: PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched till June 2023 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating collagen derivatives for treating osteoarthritis. Data were independently extracted by two authors.
Emissions of the inhalable particle (d < 10 μm, PM) and their harmful compositions from combustion sources have high potential on health risk with nearly no regulation. This study investigates the particle size distribution (PSD), as well as the removal mechanism of PM and fine particle (FP)-bound polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from the flue gas of a hazardous waste thermal treatment system. It has ultralow regulated emission and becomes a candidate of power generation module.

Background: Adhesive capsulitis affects the shoulder joint, causing pain and limiting motion. In clinical practice, the effectiveness of injections varies, and the factors influencing their success remain unclear. This study investigates the predictors of effective corticosteroid injections in patients with primary adhesive capsulitis.

It also examined mediating roles for affective self-stigma in the relationships between cognitive self-stigma and behavioral self-stigma/PUI/PSU.
Methods: Using a cross-sectional design, 530 participants diagnosed with SUDs in Taiwan were recruited from a psychiatric center in Taiwan.
Understanding the structure, dynamics, and functionality of microbial communities is essential for developing sustainable and effective bioremediation strategies, particularly for sites contaminated with mixed chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs), which can make the biodegradation process more complex and challenging. In this study, 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing revealed a significant change in microbial distribution in response to CVOCs contamination. The loss of sensitive taxa such as Proteobacteria and Acidobacteriota was observed, while CVOCs-resistant taxa such as Campilobacterota were found significantly enriched in contaminated sites.
