Article Synopsis
  • The autocloning technique creates photonic crystals by stacking layers of high- and low-index dielectric materials in a zigzag pattern on periodic substrates.
  • TiO2/SiO2 two-dimensional polarization filters were made using electron beam evaporation and ion-beam-assisted deposition, maintaining the zigzag shape with a thickness of 8 μm.
  • This symmetric design can function as an antireflection coating, helping to minimize ripples and providing a working wavelength range of 200 nm.

Silicon nitride (Si(3)N(4)) and silicon dioxide (SiO(2)) films were prepared by ion-assisted deposition, and a higher deposition rate was achieved for both films. The results of x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy measurements showed that the films have amorphous structures. As measured by infrared (IR) spectrometry and x-ray photoelectron spectrometry, both stoichiometric films have extremely low hydrogen content.
