Background: Brugada syndrome (BrS) is an inherited channelopathy characterized by right precordial ST-segment elevation. This study investigates the clinical and genetic characteristics of children with BrS in Hong Kong.

Methods: A retrospective review was conducted at the only tertiary pediatric cardiology center in Hong Kong from 2002 to 2022, including all pediatric BrS patients under 18 years old.

Desmethylclomipramine (DCMI), a bioactive metabolite of clomipramine, shows the therapeutic efficacy with antidepressive agency as well as potential cytostatic effects on lung cancer cells. Here, we demonstrated that DCMI effectively caused transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1-mediated mesenchymal type of A549 cells to undergo mitochondrial death via myeloid cell leukemia-1 (Mcl-1) suppression and activation of truncated Bid (tBid).

Public Fear and Risk Perception During Dengue Fever Outbreak in Taiwan.

This study aimed to understand the public reaction to the 2015 dengue outbreak in Taiwan by determining the key influencing factors. A total of 1104 respondents aged 18 years and over, were recruited by telephone between November 20 and 28, 2015, to investigate fear, risk perception, and psychological distress during the dengue outbreak. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that fear of dengue was more prevalent in the areas that were most affected, as well as those with infected friends or relatives.

Total synthesis of aspidostomide G from a brominated tryptamine.

The first total synthesis of aspidostomide G using a brominated tryptamine is described. The synthetic route features several notable aspects: (a) the starting material, compound 13, contains a built-in hydroxy group and was transformed to the Sonogashira reaction precursor; (b) the construction of the indole ring was achieved through a transition-metal catalyzed synthesis and a 5- cyclization. The desired indole 9 was synthesized in only 7 steps with an overall yield of 54% and required only three columns; (c) a late C2-bromination was achieved by using the 4-acetoxyindole analogue 14c.

Background: Valproic acid (VPA) is one of the most widely used broad-spectrum antiepileptic drugs, and carbapenems (CBPs) remain the drug of choice for severe infection caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria in critically ill patients. The interaction between VPA and CBPs can lead to a rapid depletion of serum VPA level. This may then cause status epilepticus (SE), which is associated with significant mortality.

Applying the Balanced Scorecard to Build Service Performance Measurements of Medical Institutions: An AHP-DEMATEL Approach.

The main purpose of this study is to explore the application of the balanced scorecard (BSC) to service performance measurements of medical institutions using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and decision making and trial evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL). According to the concept of BSC, a total of four evaluation dimensions and twenty-two indicators of medical service performance measurements were developed. To collect data, this study delivered expert questionnaires to medical-related professional supervisors, deans, and heads of medical institutions in Taiwan.

Purpose: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is spreading worldwide, causing mental health concerns among people. People's perceptions of the disease affect their psychological adaptation and health outcomes. In this study, we present people's perceptions of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), level of government trust, and their psychological distress during the pandemic for examining the impact of peoples' COVID-19 perceptions on their mental health.

Zinc deficiency associated with cutaneous toxicities induced by epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy in patients with lung adenocarcinoma.

Purpose: Cutaneous toxicities are common adverse effects following epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) therapy. Zinc deficiency causes diverse diseases, including skin toxicities. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the role of zinc deficiency in patients with EGFR-TKI-induced skin toxicities.
