A 60s man with a history of laparoscopic distal gastrectomy(LDG)of gastric cancer in January 2015was followed up in an outpatient clinic. He remained healthy without recurrence for about 2 years, but in February 2017, colonoscopy identified an elevated lesion that covered one-third of the circumference in the ascending colon. Biopsy revealed that this lesion had poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma.

Methods: We evaluated postoperative sexual function assessed by IIEF5 in 91 patients who responded to the questionnaire by mail.
Results: After a median follow-up of 5.
A 55-year-old man who presented with abdominal pain was diagnosed with pancreatic head cancer involving the portal vein. He underwent pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy without a resection of the portalvein, resulting in a macroscopic residualtumor, because radicalresection was impossible owing to the severe localinvasion. Postoperative chemotherapy( GEM plus S-1)was administered.

Methods: Between 2000 and 2012, 307 consecutive patients with low rectal cancer underwent curative sphincter-preserving surgery. We evaluated postoperative anal and urinary dysfunction in 190 patients who responded to a questionnaire by mail.
Deprivation of estrogen causes breast tumors in women to adapt and develop enhanced sensitivity to this steroid. Accordingly, women relapsing after treatment with oophorectomy, which substantially lowers estradiol for a prolonged period, respond secondarily to aromatase inhibitors with tumor regression. We have utilized in vitro and in vivo model systems to examine the biologic processes whereby Long Term Estradiol Deprivation (LTED) causes cells to adapt and develop hypersensitivity to estradiol.

Enhanced expression of ERalpha associated with partial localization of ERalpha to the plasma membranes in LTED cells is thought to be an important step for acquisition of estrogen-ablation resistance. In this study, we compared the regulation of ERalpha gene expression between wild type and LTED cells, examining the usage of the promoters A and C as well as their methylation status.

Integrin alpha(v)beta3 mediates the attachment of osteoclasts to bone matrix, and it is overexpressed in bone-residing breast cancer cells. We studied BM from breast cancer in relation to its Integrin alpha(v)beta3 expression.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFNeoadjuvant chemotherapy has become popular, especially for patients with advanced breast cancer. The pros and cons of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for treating breast cancer patients are reviewed. The advantages of neoadjuvant chemotherapy are 1) overall survival and recurrence-free survival rate are the same as post-operative chemotherapy, 2) serves as an in vivo sensitivity test, 3) increases the rate of breast conserving therapy, 4) facilitates the study of cancer biology.

Our prior studies demonstrated an association between enhanced MAPK activation and hypersensitivity in long-term estrogen-deprived (LTED) MCF-7 cells. Herein, we report that MAPK is constitutively activated in LTED cells and not dependent on serum factors.
