POD-Galerkin FSI Analysis for Flapping Motion.

FSI simulations of flapping motions have been widely investigated to develop a flapping-wing micro air vehicle. Because an intensive parametric study is important for the product design, a computationally efficient model is required. The purpose of the present study was to develop a reduced-order model of flapping motion.

Cardiac metastasis of renal pelvic cancer.

A 66-year-old man was referred to our hospital with chest discomfort and shortness of breath. Seven months previously he had undergone a laparoscopic left nephroureterectomy for a left renal pelvic tumor and was given two cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy (methotrexate, epirubicin and cisplatin). Echocardiogram showed an 8-mm sized mass extending from the right atrium into the right ventricle.

Comprehensive mutational analysis of the VHL gene in sporadic renal cell carcinoma: relationship to clinicopathological parameters.

To delineate more precisely the somatic von Hippel-Lindau disease (VHL) gene alteration as well as to elucidate its etiologic role in renal tumorigenesis, we examined a total of 240 sporadic renal cell carcinomas (RCCs) for somatic VHL gene alterations by DNA-SSCP followed by sequencing, methylation-specific PCR assay, microsatellite LOH study, and Southern blot analysis. Intragenic mutation of the VHL gene was found exclusively in clear-cell or variant-type RCCs at a frequency of 51% (104/202). Hypermethylation of the VHL promoter region was detected in an additional 11 clear-cell RCCs.
