Visible-light-driven organic synthesis is a green and sustainable method for producing fine chemicals and is highly desirable at both laboratory and industrial scales. In this study, we developed a broad-range (including the red region) visible-light-driven carbonylation of CCl, CBr, and CBrF with nucleophiles, such as amines and alcohols, using a B-Mg/TiO hybrid catalyst. Carbonyl molecules such as ureas, carbamates, carbonate esters, and carbamoyl fluorides were synthesized with high selectivity and efficiency under mild conditions.

Vitamin B derivatives are sophisticated metal complexes that facilitate enzymatic reactions in the biological systems. The B enzymes inspired reactions catalytically proceed in dual-catalyst systems of B derivatives and heterogeneous photocatalysts, such as titanium oxide (TiO) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), under light irradiation.

Acute and localized high dose radiation exposure from hot particles taken into the body must induce cell death and severe damage to tissues, whether they are proliferating or not. However, very little the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying this internal radiation pathology has been investigated.

However, patients with unmeasurable ABI are sometimes excluded from the analysis and their clinical characteristics are poorly understood. Methods One hundred twenty-two consecutive Japanese subjects (mean age, 72 years), who underwent successful endovascular treatment (EVT) for lower extremity arteries at our hospital were retrospectively studied.

We previously reported that CT pre-treatment significantly improved the acute survival rate and reduced acute radiation injury of the small intestine and bone marrow of rats after 5 Gy of total body X-ray irradiation. To examine the long-term effects of CT administration after irradiation, we investigated the effects of CT pre-treatment and pre- and post-treatment on the chronic survival rate and solid tumor (spleen, skin and subcutis, and thyroid) incidence after irradiation using 7-week-old male Wistar rats.

However, there was a rapid and large re-emergence of RSV infection in Japan. Notably, we were faced with a difficult situation wherein there was a shortage of hospital beds.

Catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) is a relatively rare inherited arrhythmic disease that causes sudden cardiac death, and is caused by mutations in the cardiac ryanodine receptor (RyR2) or sarcoplasmic reticulum protein calsequestrin 2 gene (CASQ2). A 16-year-old man was diagnosed with CPVT and was implanted with a Subcutaneous-implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (S-ICD), but defibrillation electrode detachment occurred early after placement. We suspected that a two-incision technique was the possible cause.

Oxidation of alcohols with 4-amino-TEMPO-immobilized monolith catalyst was investigated in batch and continuous flow systems. The polymer monoliths were prepared by polymerization-induced phase separation using styrene derivatives, and 4-amino-TEMPO was immobilized on the polymer monolith with a flow reaction.

Experimentally, a few μm of 55MnO2 powder was irradiated with neutrons at a nuclear reactor in order to generate 56MnO2 that emits β-rays.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFEstimates of external absorbed dose in experimental animals exposed to sprayed neutron-activated 56Mn powder are necessary for comparison with internal absorbed doses estimated under the same exposure conditions, which is required for a correct interpretation of the observed biological effects. It has been established that the measured dose of external absorbed dose as a result of gamma irradiation range 1-15 mGy, which is order of magnitude less than the maximal dose of internal gamma and beta irradiation of the whole body of the same experimental animals irradiated under the same conditions: according to the available literature data, the maximal values of absorbed dose of internal gamma-beta irradiation of the whole body are in the range of 330 mGy-1200 mGy for mice and 100 mGy-150 mGy for rats. It is concluded that under the conditions of experiments with dispersed neutron-activated powder 56MnO2, internal gamma-beta irradiation of experimental animals is the main factor of radiation exposure compared to external gamma irradiation.

We extracted data from hospital records on the number of outpatients, inpatients, infectious disease consultations, and consultations for representative pediatric diseases. We compared attendance in 2017-2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, with 2020, when COVID-19 spread to Japan.

We previously reported that the expression levels of double-stranded DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunit (DNA-PKcs), which plays a key role in non-homologous end joining, are correlated with the radiosensitivity of cancer cells. Specifically, cells expressing high levels of DNA-PKcs exhibited radiation resistance, whereas cells expressing low levels were sensitive to radiation treatment.
