Purpose: In radiation therapy for prostate cancer, bladder ultrasound diagnostic devices are utilized. However, the performance of all devices has not been fully evaluated. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of three devices-Lilium IP200 (IP200; Lilium Otsuka, Kanagawa), CubeScan BioCon-900S (900S; JCT, Hiroshima), and BVI 6100 (BVI 6100; Verathon, Bothell, WA, USA)-as tools for measuring bladder volume.

We defined the ocular surface dose of the head phantom as the crystalline lens exposure dose and measured using a radiophotoluminescence dosimeter (RPLD, GD-352 M) in the preset field (13.6 cm) and in each of the fields when blade X2 aperture was reduced in 0.

Purpose: Incidents are recommended to be analyzed by root cause analysis (RCA). Our institution also conducts RCA for incidents and takes measures to prevent recurrence. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of countermeasures against the root causes analyzed by RCA in order to prevent recurrence of incidents.

The preoperative pulmonary function was unfavorable, so bullectomy of right upper lobe with video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery( VATS) was performed. The outpatient follow-up was completed at 6 months after surgery.

We hypothesized that a serum parameter of pregnant women, the ratio of reduced to total albumin (reduced ALB ratio), would be associated with protein intake during pregnancy. The serum reduced ALB ratio of pregnant women was compared with protein intake and with gestation outcomes (gestation length and infant birth weight) in an observational study of 115 Japanese pregnant women.

Herein, we defined a novel VAP bundle including 10 preventive items. We analyzed compliance rates and clinical effectiveness associated with this bundle in patients undergoing intubation at our medical center.

However, few studies have compared animal and alternative protein sources in terms of protein quality using the INFOGEST method. This study aimed to evaluate the protein quality of milk-, plant-, and insect-based protein materials by in vitro protein digestibility and in vitro digestible indispensable amino acid score (DIAAS), following the INFOGEST method.

With the development of Lp(a)-lowering therapies, this study sought to characterise patterns of Lp(a) levels in a global ASCVD population and identify racial, ethnic, regional and gender differences.
Methods: A multicentre cross-sectional epidemiological study to estimate the prevalence of elevated Lp(a) in patients with a history of myocardial infarction, ischaemic stroke or peripheral artery disease conducted at 949 sites in 48 countries in North America, Europe, Asia, South America, South Africa and Australia between April 2019 and July 2021.
Background: Oral activated factor XI (FXIa) inhibitors may modulate coagulation to prevent thromboembolic events without substantially increasing bleeding. We explored the pharmacodynamics, safety, and efficacy of the oral FXIa inhibitor asundexian for secondary prevention after acute myocardial infarction (MI).
Methods: We randomized 1601 patients with recent acute MI to oral asundexian 10, 20, or 50 mg or placebo once daily for 6 to 12 months in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 2, dose-ranging trial.
During the surge of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) delta variant, our institution operated an intensive care unit (ICU) for patients with severe COVID-19. The study aim was to determine the survival rate and treatment outcomes of patients with severe COVID-19 treated in the ICU during the surge. A total of 23 consecutive patients with severe COVID-19 were admitted to the ICU between August 5 and October 6, 2021.

In this case report, a 62-year-old man with a history of hypertension presented with a runny nose. After an at-home COVID-19 positive test, he developed dyspnea and fever.

Objective: Although the value of video-assisted thoracic surgery for acute pyothorax is becoming widely recognized, the optimal timing of surgery has not been established. Therefore, we aimed to determine the optimal timing of video-assisted thoracic surgery in acute pyothorax.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 38 consecutive video-assisted thoracic surgeries performed for acute pyothorax between January 2013 and December 2017 at our institution.
Background: Minimally invasive thoracoscopic lobectomy is the recommended surgery for clinical stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The purpose of this study was to identify the risk factors, including sarcopenia, for postoperative complications in patients undergoing a complete single-lobe thoracoscopic lobectomy for clinical stage I NSCLC, as well as the impact of complications on disease-free survival.
Methods: We retrospectively investigated 173 patients with pathologically-diagnosed NSCLC who underwent curative thoracoscopic lobectomies between April 2013 and March 2018.

A 28-year-old male visited a nearby hospital with chief complaint of bilateral back pain and fever. He was diagnosed with a right complex renal cyst (Bosniak classification, IIF) with a kidney stone and was referred to our hospital. We first suspected an incarcerated kidney stone and performed flexible transurethral lithotomy; however, his symptoms did not improve.

Methods: This study retrospectively compared surgical and oncological outcomes in the period before and after the introduction of TL for non-small cell lung cancer. Propensity score-matched analysis was performed with respect to baseline patient variables and tumor characteristics.
Mucopolysaccharidosis type II (MPS II or Hunter syndrome) is a lysosomal storage disorder caused by a deficiency of iduronate-2-sulfatase (IDS), an enzyme that catabolizes glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) including heparan sulfate (HS) and dermatan sulfate (DS). GAG accumulation leads to severe neurological and somatic impairments. At present, the most common treatment for MPS II is intravenous enzyme replacement therapy; however, the inability of recombinant IDS to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) restricts therapeutic efficacy for neurological manifestations.

Methods: One hundred and six patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) were subjected to this procedure. Oncological outcomes and renal function according to the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and the tubular excretion rate on renoscintigraphy before and at 12 months after surgery were evaluated.
