Objective: To develop the Stress Scale for Parents With Cleft Lip and/or Palate Children in Taiwan and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the scale with a group of parents who have children with cleft lip and/or palate.

Design: In phase 1, qualitative procedures were conducted in constructing the item pool for the Stress Scale for Parents With Cleft Lip and/or Palate Children. Psychometric properties of the scale were assessed in phase 2.

Background: Sexually active adolescents with diabetes are at high risk for unplanned pregnancies and reproductive complications.

Objective: Knowledge, attitudes, intentions, and behaviors regarding diabetes and reproductive issues, sexuality, and contraception were examined in teens with diabetes in relation to a non-diabetic group.

Methods: A multisite, case-control, theory-based structured telephone interview was conducted on adolescent women: 80 with diabetes mellitus (DM) and 37 matched controls without diabetes (non-DM).

Background: Understanding factors that affect decision-making in using preconception planning is important to reduce the rate of unplanned pregnancies and pregnancy-related complications in all women with diabetes. Previously, there were no studies of reproductive health-related beliefs, attitudes, or behaviors of adolescent women with diabetes. Constructs from social cognitive models, such as, the health belief model (HBM), theory of reasoned action, and social cognitive theory, are factors that can influence these behavioral outcomes.

Purpose: This study explored the awareness of issues related to diabetes and pregnancy, preconception counseling (PC), and contraception in adolescent women with type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Methods: A descriptive-qualitative method was used to collect open-ended data during a telephone interview on reproductive health by same-gender research assistants. Eighty subjects were recruited from multiple sites (mean age = 17.

Objectives: To determine psychometric properties of scales within the theoretically based Reproductive Health Attitudes and Behavior (RHAB) instrument for examining preconception planning of young women with diabetes. Scales represented constructs from 3 social cognition models that can influence reproductive health behavior.

Methods: Psychometrics were examined on data from a telephone interview on this 48-item instrument using a sample of 87 female adolescents with diabetes from 4 medical centers.

Objective: Determine the relationships between nursing staffing and specific nurse-sensitive outcomes (central line blood-associated infection, pressure ulcer, fall, medication error, and restraint application duration rates) across specialty units (cardiac and noncardiac intensive care, cardiac and noncardiac intermediate care, and medical-surgical).

Background: A number of hospital-level studies have demonstrated that lower staffing levels are associated with higher adverse patient outcomes. However, insufficient insight into unit-level staffing relationships is available.

In efforts to quantify the quality of care delivered to patients within their systems, nursing administrators are being called on to both privately and publicly report nursing-sensitive outcomes for their institutions. Accurate reporting with appropriate patient population or risk adjustment is essential if the reported outcomes are to provide meaningful data to consumers and providers. At present there are no effective mechanisms available that can sufficiently adjust nursing-sensitive outcomes to assure reliable reporting.
