Article Synopsis
  • A new eco-friendly electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor using carbon quantum dots (CN QDs) was developed for highly sensitive detection of vitamin K (VK).
  • The sensor combined nickel-cobalt nanocages (NiCo NCs) with CN QDs, enhancing luminescent properties and allowing for efficient signal amplification when applied to a poly-L-cysteine film.
  • It demonstrated a detection range for VK between 1.0 × 10⁻⁸ to 5.0 × 10⁻⁴ mol/L, with a low limit of detection at 1.65 × 10⁻⁹ mol/L, and showed effective recoveries in food samples, indicating its practical application.

Consumption of contaminated wines is a significant source of ochratoxin A (OTA) intake in humans, yet existing techniques for OTA removal are inadequate. This study constructs a TiO/SiO/g-CN catalyst (TiSiMs-TCN) with a tubular structure, capable of efficiently removing OTA from both simulated and real wines under visible light irradiation. The results of experiments, characterizations, and theoretical calculations demonstrate that the incorporation of silica enhances the adsorption capacity for OTA, and the tubular structure improves the catalyst's photoelectric properties.

To enhance the surface hydrophobicity and emulsification capacity of silica colloidal particles, a natural surface modification of soy hull polysaccharides (SHP) was conducted. Here, the effects of pH and ionic strength on the stability, microstructure and rheological properties of concentrated Pickering emulsions were investigated. Experimental results show emulsions gelled at pH 2, with increasing pH (2-10), SiO-SHP absolute zeta potential (from -19.

Relation extraction independently verifies all entity pairs in a sentence to identify predefined relationships between named entities. Because these entity pairs share the same contextual features of a sentence, they lead to a complicated semantic structure. To distinguish semantic expressions between relation instances, manually designed rules or elaborate deep architectures are usually applied to learn task-relevant representations.

Background: Melittin, a major peptide component of bee venom, has demonstrated promising anti-cancer activity across various preclinical cell models, making it a potential candidate for cancer therapy. However, its molecular mechanisms, particularly in ovarian cancer, remain largely unexplored. Ovarian cancer is a life-threatening gynecological malignancy with poor clinical outcomes and limited treatment options.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is a viral infectious disease that can cause infection in pigs of different ages. The condition known as porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome poses a serious risk to the world's pig business and results in significant financial losses. Fuzhengjiedu San (FZJDS) is a traditional Chinese medicine compound, the main components include:Radix Isatidis, Radix Astragali and Herba Epimedii.

As an accelerated electron transfer device, the influence of microbial electrochemical snorkel (MES) on soil greenhouse gas production remains unclear. Electron transport is the key to methane production and denitrification. We found that the NO amount of the MES treatment was comparable to the control however the cumulative CO and CH emissions were reduced by 50% and 41%, respectively.

Natural compounds have shown promising application prospects in preventing or treating various diseases, including osteoporosis on account of their abundant sources, low price, multi-targeting and multiple biological effects. As a bioactive natural product, quercetin (Que) has previously demonstrated to ameliorate osteoporosis (OP), however, its poor bioavailability resulting from low water solubility, poor stability and lack of bone-targeting largely restricted its efficacy and clinical applications. Inspired by the bone-targeting capability of phosphate compounds, we reported a one-step procedure for synthesis of phosphorylated Que (p-Que) by direct phosphorylating phenol groups of Que for the first time.

Purpose: This study aims to assess whether dual anti-HER2 therapy with trastuzumab and pertuzumab increases early cardiac toxicity compared to trastuzumab alone in breast cancer (BC) patients receiving postoperative radiation therapy (RT).

Methods: Consecutive operable BC patients receiving postoperative RT and trastuzumab with or without pertuzumab between January 2017 and September 2020 at seven tertiary hospitals in China were retrospectively reviewed. Cardiac examinations included echocardiography, electrocardiogram (ECG), NT-proBNP, and cTnI at baseline before RT and during the follow-up.

In this study, we developed and validated a novel microhaplotype (MH) panel, the FGID Microhaplotype Kit, which contains 232 loci and was specifically designed for forensic kinship analysis. The performance of the panel was evaluated through rigorous testing that included sensitivity, species specificity, inhibitor resistance, uniformity, stability, accuracy and mixture deconvolution. The results showed that the kit is capable of reliably detecting all loci with minimal DNA input.

The tropical Pacific is the largest oceanic source of carbon dioxide (CO) emissions, where persistent marine heatwaves (MHWs) frequently occur. During persistent MHW events which are associated with strong El Niño events, CO outgassing is notably reduced, however, its detailed spatiotemporal response to MHWs has not been fully characterized. In this study, we showed a high degree of consistency between CO source regions in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean and the occurrence regions with average annual MHW days exceeding 45 days (co-occurring area covers 80% of the area where MHWs occur).

Two undescribed compounds, including one monoterpene () and one sesquiterpene (), together with eleven known compounds were isolated from . The structures of the isolated compounds were determined by comprehensive spectroscopic analysis; the absolute configurations of these compounds were determined by ECD calculation. Some of the compounds were tested for anti-inflammatory activity.

Background: Sepsis is a life-threatening condition characterized by a dysregulated host immune response to infection. Currently, stress hyperglycemia is frequently associated with an unfavorable prognosis in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. During sepsis, the progression of the immune response and inflammation often leads to aberrant metabolic indicators.

Colostrum, the initial mammary secretion produced by various mammals following birth, is a conduit for maternal immunity transfer in diverse mammalian species. Concurrently, many cellular processes are occurring in the neonatal small intestine to prepare it to receive molecular signals from a superfood essential for the neonate's health and development. During the prepartum colostrum secretion, the newborn intestine undergoes transient alterations in the intestinal barrier, primarily regulating immunoglobulin absorption.

Limited treatment options are available for bladder cancer (BCa) resulting in extremely high mortality rates. Cyclovirobuxine D (CVB-D), a naturally alkaloid, reportedly exhibits notable antitumor activity against diverse tumor types. However, its impact on CVB-D on BCa and its precise molecular targets remain unexplored.

Purpose: Since fibroblast activation protein (FAP), one predominant biomarker of cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs), is highly expressed in the tumor stroma of various epidermal-derived cancers, targeting FAP for tumor diagnosis and treatment has shown substantial potentials in both preclinical and clinical studies. However, in preclinical settings, tumor-bearing mice exhibit relatively low absolute FAP expression levels, leading to challenges in acquiring high-quality PET images using radiolabeled FAP ligands (FAPIs) with low molar activity, because of which a saturation effect in imaging is prone to happen. Moreover, how exactly the molar dose of FAPI administered to a mouse influences the targeted PET imaging and radiotherapy remains unclear now.

Background: Hemorrhagic myocardial infarction (hMI) can rapidly diminish the benefits of reperfusion therapy and direct the heart toward chronic heart failure. T2∗ cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is the reference standard for detecting hMI. However, the lack of clarity around the earliest time point for detection, time-dependent changes in hemorrhage volume, and the optimal methods for detection can limit the development of strategies to manage hMI.
