Tri-(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)methyl (TTM) based radicals can be promising in providing relatively high fluorescence quantum efficiency. In this study, we have evaluated the photoluminescence properties of a series of TTM-based radicals by means of DFT and TD-DFT methods. The optimized structures of the ground states (D) and the first excited states (D) of all the radicals are calculated and the computed emission bands are comparable with previous experimental results.

Novel endohedral metallofullerenes (EMFs), namely, ErC@C(5)-C, ErC@C(6)-C, ErC@C(15)-C, ErC@C(9)-C, ErC@C(15)-C, and ErC@C(32)-C, had been experimentally synthesized, and the unique structures and many fascinating properties had also been widely explored. Nevertheless, the position of the Er atoms inside the cage shows a severe disorder within the stable EMF monomer, which is difficult to understand and explain from the experimental point of view. In this work, based on the density functional theoretical calculations, the ErC@C(6)-C has 73 directional isomers and 2 Er atoms that are far beyond from Er-Er single bonding and tend to be close to the cage side (marked as "shell"), and the core (ErC units) takes on a butterfly shape as generally revealed.

Background: Great concerns have been raised on SARS-CoV-2 impact on men's andrological well-being, and many studies have attempted to determine whether SARS-CoV-2 is present in the semen and till now the data are unclear and somehow ambiguous. However, these studies used quantitative real-time (qRT) PCR, which is not sufficiently sensitive to detect nucleic acids in clinical samples with a low viral load.

Selenium-based materials are considered as desirable candidates for potassium-ion and sodium-ion storage. Herein, an in situ fabrication method is developed to prepare an integrated cuprous selenide electrode by means of directly chemical selenization of the copper current collector with commercial selenium powder. Interestingly, only the electrolyte of 1 m potassium hexafluorophosphate dissolved in 1,2-dimethoxyethane with higher highest occupied molecular orbital energy and lower desolvation energy facilitates the formation of polyselenide intermediates and the further selenization of the copper current collector.

Phenolic bisabolane-type sesquiterpenoids (PBS) represent a rare class of natural products with diverse biological activities. In this study, chemical investigations of the fungus Aspergillus flavipes 297 resulted in the isolation and identification of seven PBS, including a pair of new enantiomers (+)-1a and (-)-1b, a new derivative 2, and five previously reported ones 3-7. The chemical structures of the isolated PBS were determined by extensive NMR and HRESIMS spectroscopic analysis.

Herein we report two new TPE-based 3D MOFs, that is, Sr-ETTB and Co-ETTB (TPE=Tetraphenylethylene, H ETTB=4',4''',4''''',4'''''''-(ethene-1,1,2,2-tetrayl)tetrakis(([1,1'-biphenyl]-3,5-dicarboxylic acid))). Through tailoring outer shell electron configurations of Sr and Co cations, the fluorescence intensity of the MOFs is tuned from high emission to complete non-emission. Sr-ETTB with strong blue fluorescence shows reversible fluorescence variations in response to pressure and temperature, which is directly related to the reversible deformation of the crystal structure.

Increasing evidence suggests that POU domain class 2 transcription factor 1 (POU2F1) participates in carcinogenesis and cancer progression via promotion of cell proliferation and metastasis; however, the functional role of POU2F1 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is largely unknown. In this study, we determined that POU2F1 was significantly up-regulated in HCC tumor tissue and cell lines. We demonstrated that POU2F1 over-expression promoted HCC cell proliferation, colony formation, migration, and invasion, while silencing of POU2F1 inhibited these malignant phenotypes.

Elucidating arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal responses to elevation changes is critical to improve understanding of microbial function in ecosystems under global asymmetrical climate change scenarios. Here we examined AM fungal community in a two-year reciprocal translocation of vegetation-intact soil blocks along an altitudinal gradient (3,200 m to 3,800 m) in an alpine meadow on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. AM fungal spore density was significantly higher at lower elevation than at higher elevation regardless of translocation, except that this parameter was significantly increased by upward translocation from original 3,200 m to 3,400 m and 3,600 m.

Fifteen soil samples were collected from Oncomelania hupensis culture pond in Miluo Schistosomiasis Control and Prevention Base, Hunan Province. Four strains of bacteria were identified to have molluscacidal effects, numbered as B8, B27, B36 and B59. Compared with the fermentation broth groups and bacteria suspension groups, the fermentation supernatant groups of the four strains showed the strongest molluscacidal effect.
