Background: Structural variations (SVs) are widespread across genome and have a great impact on evolution, disease, and phenotypic diversity. Despite the development of numerous bioinformatic tools, commonly referred to as SV callers, tailored for detecting SVs using whole genome sequence (WGS) data and employing diverse algorithms, their performance necessitates rigorous evaluation with real data and validated SVs. Moreover, a considerable proportion of these tools have been primarily designed and optimized using human genome data.

Lattice strain is widely investigated to improve the performance of heterogeneous catalysts, however, the effect of lattice strain is under-explored in high-entropy oxide based photocatalyst. In this study, noble-metal-free (CoCrMnFeNi)Ox with lattice strain is synthesized using a temperature-controlled, template-free and salt-assisted strategy. In the presence of lattice strain, an intensive internal electric field is formed in (CoCrMnFeNi)Ox, promoting the separation of photoinduced charge carriers.

Recently, organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites exhibiting facile structural phase transitions have accumulated significant attention due to their switchable second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties, which hold significant promise for next-generation intelligent optoelectronic devices. In this study, we present a novel one-dimensional hexagonal hybrid perovskite, (4-methoxypiperidinium)CdCl, which undergoes a reversible high-temperature structural phase transition at 389 K. Notably, (4-methoxypiperidinium)CdCl demonstrates switchable second-order NLO and dielectric properties, accompanied by symmetry breaking from the centrosymmetric to noncentrosymmetric 2 space group.

Increasing epidemiological evidence has shown that PM exposure is significantly associated with the occurrence of osteoporosis. It has been well demonstrated that PM exposure enhanced the differentiation and function of osteoclasts by indirectly causing chronic inflammation, while the mechanism in osteoblasts remains unclear. In our study, toxic effects were evaluated by direct exposure of 20-80 μg/ml PM to MC3T3-E1 cells and BMSCs.

Carbon nanotube (CNT)-based networks are promising reinforcements for polymer nanocomposites without the issue of CNT agglomeration. In this study, the CNT junction, a vital and representative structure of CNT-based networks, was applied as the reinforcement of the polyethylene (PE) matrix. The tensile properties of the CNT-junction/PE nanocomposite were investigated via molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and compared with those of pure PE matrix and conventional CNT/PE nanocomposites.

Employing water as a hydrogen source to participate in the hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) process is a low-cost and carbon-free process demonstrating great economic and environmental potential in catalysis. However, the low efficiency of hydrogen atom abstraction from water leads to slow kinetics of HAT for most hydrogenative reactions. Here, we prepared ultrathin BiOCl nanosheets where the surface can be reconstructed via hydroxylation under light illumination to facilitate the abstraction of hydrogen atoms from pure water for efficient nitrogen fixation.

Lead (Pb), a pervasive and ancient toxic heavy metal, continues to pose significant neurological health risks, particularly in regions such as Southeast Asia. While previous research has primarily focused on the adverse effects of acute, high-level lead exposure on neurological systems, studies on the impacts of chronic, low-level exposure are less extensive, especially regarding the precise mechanisms linking ferroptosis - a novel type of neuron cell death - with cognitive impairment. This study aims to explore the potential effects of chronic low-level lead exposure on cognitive function and hippocampal neuronal ferroptosis.

Carbon nanotube (CNT)-based networks have wide applications, in which structural design and control are important to achieve the desired performance. This paper focuses on the mechanism behind the structure-dependent mechanical performance of a CNT-based hierarchical network, named a super carbon nanotube (SCNT), which can provide valuable guidance for the structural design of CNT-based networks. Through molecular dynamic (MD) simulations, the mechanical properties of the SCNTs were found to be affected by the arrangement, length and chirality of the CNTs.

In recent years, air pollution has garnered global attention due to its ability to traverse borders and regions, thereby impacting areas far removed from the emission sources. While prior studies predominantly focused on the deleterious effects of PM on the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, emerging evidence has highlighted the potential risks of PM exposure to the central nervous system. Nonetheless, research elucidating the potential influences of PM exposure on seizures, specifically in relation to neuronal ferroptosis, remains limited.

Layered-type Li-rich cathode materials have attracted significant attention for next-generation Li-ion batteries, but the advantage of their high capacity is eclipsed by their poor reversibility upon cycling. Irreversible oxygen redox activity and surface degradation have been deemed as the root cause and direct cause for their poor performance, respectively. We attempted to suppress surface degradation by inserting fluoride ions up to some depth on the surface.

Coiled carbon nanotubes (CCNTs) as a promising nanometer scale spring are investigated for the effect of the defects on the tensile mechanical properties of CCNTs by using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Six samples of defective CCNTs are constructed by introducing the defects in the different positions. The results show an obvious decrease in the spring constant and elastic limit of defective CCNTs, which results in the lower energy storage ability during the elastic range compared with the perfect CCNTs.
