[Predictive performance of population pharmacokinetic software on vancomycin steady-state trough concentration].

Objective: To estimate the predictive performance of the population pharmacokinetics software JPKD-vancomycin on predicting the vancomycin steady-state trough concentration, and to analyze the related factors affecting the predictive performance.

Methods: The clinical data of patients who were treated with vancomycin and received therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) admitted to Suzhou Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University from July 2013 to December 2018 were enrolled. All patients were designed an empirical vancomycin regimen (initial regimen) according to vancomycin medication guidelines.

The influence of adjacent Al atoms on the hydrothermal stability of H-SSZ-13: a first-principles study.

The Al concentration and distribution have a great influence on the hydrothermal stability of the H-SSZ-13 zeolites in experiments. In this work, first-principles calculations are performed to clarify the decomposition mechanism of an H-SSZ-13 framework with adjacent Al atom pair distribution under hydrothermal conditions. It is found that the adjacent Al atoms have a tendency to occupy the para-sites of the 4-membered rings (4MRs) in the framework.

Low-temperature dependence on the THz spectrum of CL-20/TNT energetic cocrystal by molecular dynamics simulations.

Based on the unique advantages of terahertz (THz) spectrum on the detection of energetic cocrystals, the low-temperature dependent THz spectra of CL-20/TNT cocrystal were investigated by using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations from 5 to 296 K, as well as three different crystal faces, (001), (120), and (010). When the temperature decreases below 95 K, we have observed two new peaks for CL-20/TNT cocrystal, at 4.58 and 5.

Spaceflight and simulated microgravity suppresses macrophage development via altered RAS/ERK/NFκB and metabolic pathways.

Spaceflight-associated immune system weakening ultimately limits the ability of humans to expand their presence beyond the earth's orbit. A mechanistic study of microgravity-regulated immune cell function is necessary to overcome this challenge. Here, we demonstrate that both spaceflight (real) and simulated microgravity significantly reduce macrophage differentiation, decrease macrophage quantity and functional polarization, and lead to metabolic reprogramming, as demonstrated by changes in gene expression profiles.

Influence of Acculturation on Risk for Gestational Diabetes Among Asian Women.

Introduction: Asian women have a higher prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus than women of other races/ethnicities. We aimed to compare the prevalence of gestational diabetes among Asian American women to other racial/ethnic groups and explore whether the higher occurrence of the disorder among Asian women can be explained by acculturation.

Methods: We conducted a population-based, cross-sectional study among 5,562 women who participated in the 2007 Los Angeles Mommy and Baby Study (LAMB) in Los Angeles County, California.

Inhibitory Effect of Corilagin on miR-21-Regulated Hepatic Fibrosis Signaling Pathway.

Corilagin is a polyphenol that can be extracted from many medicinal plants and shows multiple pharmacological effects. We aimed to investigate the role of corilagin on miR-21-regulated hepatic fibrosis, especially miR-21-regulated TGF-1/Smad signaling pathway, in hepatic stellate LX2 cell line and Sprague-Dawley rats. The mRNA or protein levels of miR-21, Smad7, connective tissue growth factor (CTGF), -smooth muscle actin (-SMA), tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), collagen type I alpha 1 (COL1A1), Smad2, Smad3, Smad2/3, p-Smad2, p-Smad3, p-Smad2/3, and transforming growth factor-1 (TGF-1) in LX2 cells and liver tissues were determined.

Standardized residency training: An equalizer for residents at different hospitals in Shanghai, China?

Background: The residency training programme in Shanghai is the first in China to become standardized; however, there has been no evidence that the programme equalizes training quality. This cross-sectional study examined whether residents in all disciplines at different hospitals perceived equivalent improvement in professional competency after this programme.

Methods: We recruited all 2283 residents who enrolled in the programme in 2013.

The objective of this study was to examine the association of life events stressors with risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) by using the multilevel sample from the 2007 Los Angeles Mommy and Baby (LAMB) survey. Four multilevel logistic regression models were applied while accounting for the multilevel design of the LAMB study. The following demographic variables were used as covariates: maternal age, race/ethnicity, maternal educational attainment, household income level in the previous year, physical exercise, and prepregnancy body weight status.

MicroRNA-18a promotes cancer progression through SMG1 suppression and mTOR pathway activation in nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

miR-18a has been reported to be upregulated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) tissues by microarray assays. However, the roles and the underlying mechanisms of miR-18a in NPC remain poorly understood. Here we demonstrated by real-time RT-PCR that miR-18a expression is upregulated in NPC tissues, and positively correlated with tumor size and TNM stage.

We sought to identify attitudes and experiences toward standardized MBIs among individuals recovering from these substance abuse disorders (SUD) through a qualitative approach.

Design: We conducted three 60-minute focus groups among people with history of SUD (6-months to 3 years in recovery): two groups with those with alcohol use disorder (AUD) history and one with individuals with history of opioid use disorder (OUD).

Ectopic thyroid microfollicular adenoma in the lung: A case report.

Introduction: Ectopic thyroid occurs due to aberrant development of the thyroid gland during its migration to the pretracheal region. Intrapulmonary ectopic thyroid is extremely rare and its benign transformation (microfollicular adenoma) has never been reported. This paper reports a case of ectopic thyroid microfollicular adenoma in the lung mimicking metastatic pelvic tumors.

The Influence of Standardized Residency Training on Trainees' Willingness to Become a Doctor: A Comparison between Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine.

A standardized residency training program (SRT) was launched in Shanghai in 2010, for both Western Medicine (WM) and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This study aimed to assess whether the program impacted trainees' willingness to become a doctor and whether the program had different effects among WM and TCM trainees. A structured questionnaire was distributed to 2114 trainees to assess their perceptions and satisfaction with the program and their willingness to become a doctor after the exposure to the program.

The healthy immigrant effect-whereby immigrants are on average healthier than the native-born-have been well studied. However, little is known about the relationship between immigration and the health of the native-born. This study fills this important research gap by examining the association between neighborhood immigrant density and several population health measures among native-born Americans.

Prenatal exposure to phthalates and neurocognitive development in children at two years of age.

Background: Phthalates are a family of endocrine disruptors with short elimination half-lives in the human body. To date, few epidemiological studies have examined repeated measures of maternal urinary phthalates and the combined effects of prenatal exposure to multiple phthalates on children's neurocognitive development.
