Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the accuracy of high-frequency ultrasonography in the diagnosis of injuries of medial patellofemoral ligaments (MPFLs), analyse the characteristics of MPFL injury and correlations between injury of the MPFL and articular cartilage of the inferomedial patella in patients with acute traumatic lateral patellar dislocation.

Methods: High-frequency sonographic images of 49 patients with acute traumatic lateral patellar dislocations treated surgically were reviewed. The χ(2) tests were performed for statistical analysis.

Objective: Emerging evidence suggests that microRNA (miRNA)-mediated gene regulation influences a variety of autoimmune disease processes, including Crohn's disease (CD), but the biological function of miRNAs in CD remains unclear. We examine miRNA level in colon tissues and study the potential functions of miRNAs that regulate pathological genes during the inflammation process.

Acquired hemophilia A (AHA) is a rare bleeding disorder caused by the autoantibody directed against factor VIII in patients without previous history of a bleeding disorder. We retrospectively analyzed the characteristics and outcomes of 49 patients with AHA diagnosed in our center from February 1994 to October 2012. Twenty-four patients with acute bleeding episodes were treated with prothrombin complex concentrate (PCC) at a relative low dose of 30 to -50 U/kg/d and achieved good outcomes without any adverse reaction.

Background: Gitelman syndrome (GS) is an autosomal recessive disease of renal tubulopathy, primarily characterized by hypokalemic metabolic alkalosis with significant hypomagnesemia, low urinary calcium, secondary aldosteronism and normal blood pressure. Both hypokalemia and hypomagnesemia were reported to cause impaired glucose tolerance and/or insulin resistance, but it is unclear whether impaired glucose tolerance and/or insulin resistance are common in GS patients.

We hypothesized that endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in macrophages induced by wear particles was one of the reasons for particle-induced osteolysis (PIO) in total hip arthroplasty (THA) failure. In the present study, the expression of ER stress markers was examined by Western blot in macrophages treated with particles from materials used in prosthetics, specimens from PIO animal models and patients suffering from aseptic loosening. To address whether ER stress triggers these inflammatory responses, the effect of an ER stress blocker on the expression of inflammatory cytokines in particle-treated macrophages and PIO animal models was tested.

The occurrence and distribution of five groups of antibiotics were investigated in the surface water of Yangtze Estuary over four seasons. Of the 20 antibiotics, only sulfamerazine was not detected at all sampling sites, indicating widespread occurrence of antibiotic residues in the study area. Detection frequencies and concentrations of antibiotics were generally higher in January, indicating that low flow conditions and low temperature might enhance the persistence of antibiotics in water.

In skeletal muscle, the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) phosphatase-1 (MKP-1) is a critical negative regulator of the MAPKs. Since the MAPKs have been reported to be both positive and negative for myogenesis, the physiological role of MKP-1 in skeletal muscle repair and regeneration has remained unclear.
