A fully liquid hexavalent containing Diphtheria (D), Tetanus (T) toxoids, whole cell Pertussis (wP), Hepatitis B (Hep B), type 1, 2, 3 of inactivated poliovirus (IPV) and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) conjugate vaccine (DTwP-HepB-IPV-Hib vaccine, HEXASIIL) was tested for lot-to-lot consistency and non-inferiority against licensed DTwP-HepB-Hib + IPV in an open label, randomized Phase II/III study. In Phase III part, healthy infants received DTwP-HepB-IPV-Hib or DTwP-HepB-Hib + IPV vaccines at 6, 10 and 14 weeks of age. Blood samples were collected prior to the first dose and 28 days, post dose 3.

Article Synopsis
  • A study aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of a new quadrivalent HPV vaccine (Cervavac) developed in India, targeting HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18, particularly in the 9-14 years age group.
  • Conducted across 12 hospitals in India, the randomized trial involved healthy participants aged 9-14, comparing Cervavac with the Gardasil vaccine, while maintaining blinding for participants and researchers.
  • Results focused on measuring the immune response 30 days after vaccination to ensure that Cervavac matched or exceeded the effectiveness of Gardasil in generating antibodies against HPV.

Croaking is a unique component of reproductive behaviour in amphibians which plays a key role in intraspecies communication and mate evaluation. While gonadal hormones are known to induce croaking, central regulation of sound production is less studied. Croaking is a dramatic, transient activity that sets apart an animal from non-croaking individuals.

Unlabelled: In the present study, 51 fungal endophytes (FEs) were isolated, purified and identified from the healthy leaf segments of ten grapevine varieties based on the spore and colony morphologies and ITS sequence information. The FEs belonged to the Ascomycota division comprising eight genera viz., , , , , and .

Background: Despite the Link Worker Scheme to address the HIV risk and vulnerabilities in rural areas, reaching out to unreached men having sex with men (MSM) remains a challenge in rural India. This study explored issues around health care access and programmatic gaps among MSM in rural settings of India.

Methods: We conducted eight Focused Group Discussions (FGDs), 20 Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), and 20 In-Depth Interviews (IDIs) in four rural sites in Maharashtra, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh between November 2018 and September 2019.

Apolipoprotein M (ApoM) binds sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) and is inversely associated with mortality in human heart failure (HF). Here, we show that anthracyclines such as doxorubicin (Dox) reduce circulating ApoM in mice and humans, that ApoM is inversely associated with mortality in patients with anthracycline-induced heart failure, and ApoM heterozygosity in mice increases Dox-induced mortality. In the setting of Dox stress, our studies suggest ApoM can help sustain myocardial autophagic flux in a post-transcriptional manner, attenuate Dox cardiotoxicity, and prevent lysosomal injury.

During the development of heart failure (HF), the capacity for cardiomyocyte (CM) fatty acid oxidation (FAO) and ATP production is progressively diminished, contributing to pathologic cardiac hypertrophy and contractile dysfunction. Receptor-interacting protein 140 (RIP140, encoded by Nrip1) has been shown to function as a transcriptional corepressor of oxidative metabolism. We found that mice with striated muscle deficiency of RIP140 (strNrip1-/-) exhibited increased expression of a broad array of genes involved in mitochondrial energy metabolism and contractile function in heart and skeletal muscle.

Background: The public health interventions among Female Sex Workers (FSWs) have mainly addressed HIV/ STI prevention. The focus of the HIV prevention program on FSWs' Reproductive and Sexual Health (RSH) has been limited, thus, rendering them at a higher risk of unintended pregnancies, delayed pregnancy detection, and utilizing unsafe abortion methods.

Methods: A multistakeholder analysis was performed to study access and use of RSH services among FSWs in urban and rural India.

Pharmacologic activation of branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) catabolism is protective in models of heart failure (HF). How protection occurs remains unclear, although a causative block in cardiac BCAA oxidation is widely assumed. Here, we use in vivo isotope infusions to show that cardiac BCAA oxidation in fact increases, rather than decreases, in HF.

Cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript (CART) peptide is a multifaceted neuropeptide involved in several physiological functions including appetite and reproduction. While studies in mammals, aves and fishes suggest evolutionary conserved role of CART, the information in amphibian is scanty. We have investigated the reproductive phase related variations of CART in the brain of adult male Microhyla ornata.

Article Synopsis
  • Myocardial infarction (MI), also known as a heart attack, is a major cause of death because there aren’t good ways to help the heart recover after it happens.
  • The study shows that after MI, the cells in blood vessels change in a way that causes problems, making it hard for the heart to heal.
  • Researchers found a specific process involving certain proteins that can make these blood vessel cells behave differently, and by blocking this process in mice, they were able to improve heart repair after an MI.

The hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) that produce blood for the lifetime of an animal arise from RUNX1+ hemogenic endothelial cells (HECs) in the embryonic vasculature through a process of endothelial-to-hematopoietic transition (EHT). Studies have identified inflammatory mediators and fluid shear forces as critical environmental stimuli for EHT, raising the question of how such diverse inputs are integrated to drive HEC specification. Endothelial cell MEKK3-KLF2/4 signaling can be activated by both fluid shear forces and inflammatory mediators, and it plays roles in cardiovascular development and disease that have been linked to both stimuli.

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a heterogeneous biliary tract cancer with a poor prognosis. Approximately 30% to 50% of patients harbor actionable alterations, including FGFR2 rearrangements. Pemigatinib, a potent, selective fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) FGFR1-3 inhibitor, is approved for previously treated, unresectable, locally advanced or metastatic CCA harboring FGFR2 fusions/rearrangements, as detected by a US Food and Drug Administration-approved test.

Fibrosis affects millions of people with cardiac disease. We developed a therapeutic approach to generate transient antifibrotic chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells in vivo by delivering modified messenger RNA (mRNA) in T cell–targeted lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). The efficacy of these in vivo–reprogrammed CAR T cells was evaluated by injecting CD5-targeted LNPs into a mouse model of heart failure.
