Recent double-blind, randomized, controlled trials reported that human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) infusions in COVID-19 patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) could diminish cytokine storm and lung damage. While these outcomes are significant, additional phase II/III trials are required to validate the efficacy of MSCs to improve the survival of COVID-19 patients with ARDS. Future studies also need to assess the efficacy of MSCs to prevent long COVID.

Flexible polymer dielectrics tolerant to electric field and temperature extremes are urgently needed for a spectrum of electrical and electronic applications. Given the complexity of the dielectric breakdown mechanism and the vast chemical space of polymers, the discovery of suitable candidates is nontrivial. We have laid the foundation for a systematic search of the polymer chemical space, which starts with "gold-standard" experimental measurements and data on the temperature-dependent breakdown strength () for a benchmark set of commercial dielectric polymer films.

Objectives: Hypertension (HTN) is considered as chronic medical condition. Because of the increased complications associated with the conventional medicine, the effects of naturopathic modalities were emphasized to prevent and minimize those adverse effects. This study was done to assess the immediate effect of neutral spinal compress on heart rate variability and blood pressure and thereby to substantiate the clinical understanding of its effect in hypertensive individuals.

Tooth loss due to trauma often triggers residual alveolar resorption to a greater degree in the sagittal direction leading to atrophy. However, in a pediatric patient, if this defect is left untreated, it can cause further atrophy leading to collapse of the arch. In the maxillary anterior area, this is also of esthetic concern.

Objective: The Furlow palatoplasty is a proven procedure in the management of secondary velopharyngeal dysfunction in patients with cleft palate. But the selection of cases, the degree of clinical success, and the preoperative predictors of the same are less established. This study is an effort to retrospectively look at outcomes, in a large series of velopharyngeal dysfunction cases treated with the Furlow palatoplasty alone.

Article Synopsis
  • Higher-grade glial neoplasms often require surgery, radiotherapy, and alkylating agents, but distinguishing between disease recurrence and treatment-related changes can be challenging after treatment.
  • This study analyzed 72 patients using FET PET imaging to establish a cutoff for differentiating true recurrence from post-treatment changes, finding a T/Wm ratio of 2.65 to be effective.
  • Results showed 57% had recurrent disease, while 43% displayed post-treatment changes, confirming that static FET PET is a valuable tool for assessing brain glioma conditions when MR imaging is inconclusive.

Biogas production through co-digestion of second and third generation substrates is an environmentally sustainable approach. Green willow biomass, chicken manure waste and microalgae biomass substrates were combined in the anaerobic digestion experiments. Biochemical methane potential test showed that biogas yields of co-digestions were significantly higher compared to the yield when energy willow was the sole substrate.

Introduction: The main aims of root canal instrumentation are to provide an environment that will lead to healing and to provide a root canal shape that is comfortable to clean and seal. When working with rotary endodontic instruments, the most significant concerns are that the instrument might fracture in the root canal, thus affecting the treatment outcome. Hence, it is of immense importance to know which file systems have more cyclic fatigue resistance.

Topical silver sulfadiazine (SSD) is an effective antimicrobial therapy used to prevent burn wound infection and promote healing, but the frequency of application has not been previously examined. This study compares once versus twice daily dressing changes with SSD, focusing on development of wound infections, incidence of hospital acquired complications, patient pain scores, and length of stay. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether a once-daily or twice-daily application of SSD impacts burn wound healing outcomes.

Medulloblastoma, a common malignant brain tumor in children, consists of four molecular subgroups WNT, SHH, Group 3 and Group 4. Group 3, Group 4 tumors have an overlap in their expression profiles and genetic alterations but differ significantly in their clinical characteristics, with Group 3 having the worst 5-year overall survival of <60%. MiR-592 is overexpressed predominantly in Group 4 tumors.

Aim: The study aimed to investigate the antifungal effects of herbal extracts and fluconazole on heat-polymerized acrylic denture base resin as a denture cleanser.

Materials And Methods: Several essential oils, such as origanum oil and grape seed oil and commercially available antifungal agent fluconazole were used as denture cleansers and their antifungal efficacy was evaluated using a spectrophotometer. Overall, 68 samples were obtained and were divided into four groups, each containing 17 samples.

Super-refractory status epilepticus (SRSE) is a life-threatening neurological emergency with high morbidity and mortality. It is defined as "status epilepticus (SE) that continues or recurs 24 hours or more after the onset of anesthesia, including those cases in which SE recurs on the reduction or withdrawal of anesthesia." This condition is resistant to normal protocols used in the treatment of status epilepticus and exposes patients to increased risks of neuronal death, neuronal injury, and disruption of neuronal networks if not treated in a timely manner.

Stroke can occur at any age or stage in life. Although it is commonly thought of as a disease amongst the elderly, it is important to highlight the fact that it also affects infants and children. In both populations, strokes have a high rate of morbidity and mortality.

Meningiomas are brain tumors that originate from the meninges and has been primarily classified into three grades by the current WHO guidelines. Although widely prevalent and can be managed by surgery there are instances when the tumors are located in difficult regions. This results in considerable challenges for complete surgical resection and further clinical management.

The Helicobacter pylori chronic colonization produces a wide range of gastric diseases in the gastric mucosa by abetting inflammation. Amidst coevolution and reorganization of its metabolism with humans, it has become difficult still imperative to understand and prevent its growth. This study focus to explore functional insights into identification of hub proteins/genes by aggregating the behavior of genes connected in a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network.

Pediatric epilepsy comprises chronic neurological disorders characterized by recurrent seizures. Sodium valproate is one of the common antiseizure medications used for treatment. Glucuronide conjugation is the major metabolic pathway of sodium valproate, carried out by the enzyme uridine 5'-diphosphate (UDP) glucuronosyl transferase (UGT) whose gene polymorphisms may alter the clinical outcome.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how metabolic parameters from 18F-FDG PET/CT scans can predict prognosis and correlate with molecular markers in patients with IDH-1 wild-type glioblastoma (GBM).
  • The analysis involved 129 patients with unclear MRI findings, identifying those who underwent surgery and were diagnosed with IDH-1 wild-type GBM, utilizing measures like SUVmax, metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG).
  • Results indicated that higher T/w ratio, MTV, and TLG predicted significantly shorter overall survival, while SUVmax was not a strong predictor; age emerged as the most important independent prognostic factor in the multivariate analysis.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (CoVID-19) caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 has affected more than 100 million lives. Severe CoVID-19 infection may lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome and death of the patient, and is associated with hyperinflammation and cytokine storm. The broad spectrum immunosuppressant corticosteroid, dexamethasone, is being used to manage the cytokine storm and hyperinflammation in CoVID-19 patients.
