The Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT) is a classic test used to assess episodic verbal memory in research and clinical practice. We aimed to adapt the RAVLT materials into Russian, provide performance norms across the adult lifespan for the Russian adaptation, and develop a mobile application for automated RAVLT administration across languages. We created three psycholinguistically matched alternative versions of the RAVLT materials in Russian and incorporated them into a new tablet application.

Bariatric surgery is known to induce weight loss and diabetes remission in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D), but the exact mechanism of glycemic normalization needs to be defined. The study included patients with BMI ≥ 35 kg/m, obesity history ≥ 10 years, and planned bariatric surgery. At baseline and 3 and 6 months after surgery, all patients underwent anthropometric measurements, body composition and blood tests (including insulin, glucagon, and incretins during oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT)), and hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp tests.

Saturated free fatty acids are thought to play a critical role in metabolic disorders associated with obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and their vascular complications via effects on the vascular endothelium. The most abundant saturated free fatty acid, palmitate, exerts lipotoxic effects on the vascular endothelium, eventually leading to cell death. Background: findings from the previously conducted studies indicate altered regulatory mechanisms of calcium and vitamin D metabolism in obese patients and a role for bariatric surgery in regulating vitamin D metabolism; however, the available data is controversial and does not provide an adequate understanding of the subject.

Methods: we evaluated serum parameters of vitamin D and mineral metabolism (vitamin D metabolites (25(OH)D, 25(OH)D, 1,25(OH)D, 3-epi-25(OH)D, and 24,25(OH)D), vitamin D-binding protein (DBP), free 25(OH)D, fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23), parathyroid hormone (PTH), total calcium, albumin, phosphorus, creatinine, magnesium) in 30 patients referred for bariatric surgery in comparison with 30 healthy volunteers of similar age, sex and baseline 25(OH)D. Patients were also followed up with repeated laboratory assessments 3 months and 6 months after surgery.

Upstream open reading frames (uORFs) are a frequent feature of eukaryotic mRNAs. Upstream ORFs govern main ORF translation in a variety of ways, but, in a nutshell, they either filter out scanning ribosomes or allow downstream translation initiation via leaky scanning or reinitiation. Here, we investigated the reaction of 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of 1,3-diazido-2-nitro-2- azapropane (DANP) to propargyl alcohol over a copper-based catalyst and identified the optimum reaction conditions that enable the synthesis of 2-nitro-1,3-bis(4,4'-dihydroxymethyl)-1,2,3-triazolyl-2-azapropane () in more than 84% yield. The reaction between DANP, 1,5-diazido-3-nitrazapentane, and phenylacetylene produced the respective 1,2,3-triazole derivatives in 83% and 71% yields, respectively. The structures of the resultant compounds were validated by infrared and NMR spectroscopies and elemental analysis.

eIF4G2 (DAP5 or Nat1) is a homologue of the canonical translation initiation factor eIF4G1 in higher eukaryotes but its function remains poorly understood. Unlike eIF4G1, eIF4G2 does not interact with the cap-binding protein eIF4E and is believed to drive translation under stress when eIF4E activity is impaired. A new approach is suggested herein for the synthesis of pyrazole derivatives by reacting 4-nitrosemicarbazide with acetylacetone. Additional studies were done on the reaction of acetylacetone with semicarbazide and its derivatives (4-aminosemicarbazide, methylsemicarbazide, and dimethylsemicarbazide). The study on the reaction with acetylacetone resulted in monocyclic 3,5-dimethyl--nitropyrazole-1-carboxamide, monocyclic 5-hydroxy-3,5-dimethyl-2-pyrazoline, and bicyclic (3,5-dimethylpyrazole-1-carbonyl)hydrazine, and conditions for the formation of acetone semicarbazone were identified.
