Complex juxtapapillary capillary hemangioma: a case report.

Background: Juxtapapillary capillary hemangiomas can occur as isolated clinical abnormalities or a manifestation of von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease. Because of the location of these vascular tumors on or adjacent to the optic disc, any therapeutic treatment option involves risk. Management typically includes close monitoring, with treatment initiation as the tumor progresses or when vision is compromised.

Retinopathy in patients with sickle cell trait.

Background: Sickle hemoglobinopathies are among the most prevalent genetic disorders in the United States. Sickle cell trait (hemoglobin AS) is the most common genotype and has traditionally been considered a benign condition. Systemic and ocular complications are seen infrequently in patients with sickle cell trait.

Therapeutic options for the management of early neurotrophic keratopathy: a case report and review.

Background: Neurotrophic keratopathy is caused by the loss of corneal sensation secondary to impaired trigeminal nerve function. Timely and appropriate action is required in the management of this condition to prevent serious complications such as corneal ulceration, perforation, and loss of vision. The role of immunomodulating agents such as cyclosporine as a therapeutic option and a review of several future treatment modalities are discussed.
