Objective: To compare oxidative status, total antioxidant capacity and values of DNA damage in peripheral blood lymphocytes in children exposed to secondhand cigarette smoke with healthy controls.
Design: Analytical, Observational.
Participants: 54 children without any chronic diseases, attending the healthy child monitoring polyclinic.
The authors assessed the clinical efficacy, tolerability and safety of acitretin in a patient with ichthyosis. A newborn infant with ichthyosis who presented at birth with collodion baby appearance, was treated with acitretin. A moderate response to acitretin therapy (1 mg/kg/day) administered for 6 months was observed, with improvement in cutaneous lesions.

The clinical aspects were delineated on the basis of the universal status covered by the formalized case report. The biochemical processes were analyzed according to the content of peroxidation products of membrane lipids, the concentration of hydrogen peroxide, phospholipase activity, antioxidant and antiperoxide defence of the blood as well as according to the physical constants of red blood cell membranes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA study was made of phospholipid metabolism in 268 children aged 1 month to 3 years, who were in a critical condition consequent on acute complicated pneumonia. Unbalance of that type metabolism was revealed. It consisted in intensive accumulation of lysophosphatidylcholine, sphingomyelin in the stroma of red blood cells and in a decrease of their pool in the blood plasma as well as in a reduction of the content of phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylethanolamine towards the plasma pool.

Reperfusion did influence the activity of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase after 10 and 40 minutes of ischemia, whereas following 120 minutes of ischemia the activity of superoxide dismutase ascended after 10 and 40 minutes of reperfusion while the activity of glutathione peroxidase remained unchanged.
