Background: Elevated Hb A1C is a modifiable risk factor for postoperative complications. However, in bariatric surgery, as published by our group and others, elevated preoperative Hb A1C may not be associated with increased postoperative complications. Previous literature has focused on primary bariatric surgery and has excluded the higher-risk revisional surgery cohort.

Article Synopsis
  • - Immunoprecipitation (IP) paired with mass spectrometry is a powerful method for mapping how proteins interact, especially when using tagged cell collections, but many protein interactions remain unexplored due to limitations in current high-throughput techniques.
  • - A major challenge in IP is maintaining stable interactions when transferring samples, as this can result in losing real interactions and failing to identify them later.
  • - The authors developed a high-content screening approach that investigates how different chemical conditions affect IP results, allowing for quick optimization of methods to better capture protein complexes.

Following a pediatric stroke, outcome measures selected for monitoring functional recovery and development vary widely. We sought to develop a toolkit of outcome measures that are currently available to clinicians, possess strong psychometric properties, and are feasible for use within clinical settings. A multidisciplinary group of clinicians and scientists from the International Pediatric Stroke Organization comprehensively reviewed the quality of measures in multiple domains described in pediatric stroke populations including global performance, motor and cognitive function, language, quality of life, and behavior and adaptive functioning.

Importance: Studies have demonstrated the benefits of INF in reducing pain scores in pediatric patients with VOC due to sickle cell disease (SCD) and in adult patients with chronic pain conditions other than VOC, such as cancer. However, there is limited literature that exists describing the role of INF in adult patients with VOC due to SCD. Current literature demonstrates that the use of IV morphine for VOC patients leads to reduced pain.

Purpose: To develop a conceptual framework of the factors likely to influence clinicians' use of a new participation-focused outcome measurement protocol in a large paediatric speech-language pathology program.

Method: A convenience sample of 27 end users (clinicians, managers) were recruited from Ontario, Canada's Preschool Speech and Language Program. Participants engaged in one virtual concept mapping session in groups of five to six during which they learned about the new protocol, and generated statements in response to a prompt asking them to identify factors that would influence their use of the protocol.

The presence of complex alleles in the CFTR gene can lead to difficulties in diagnosing cystic fibrosis and cause resistance to therapy with CFTR modulators. Tezacaftor/ivacaftor therapy for 8 months in a patient with the initially established F508del/F508del genotype did not lead to an improvement in her condition-there was no change in spirometry and an increase in the patient's weight, while there was only a slight decrease in NaCl values, measured by a sweat test. The intestinal current measurements of the patient's rectal biopsy showed no positive dynamics in the rescue of CFTR function while taking tezacaftor/ivacaftor.

Pretransplantation bariatric surgery in patients with high Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score is fraught with risks. Bariatric surgery after liver transplantation (LT) may be complicated by surgical adhesions but could have advantages if performed at the time of transplantation. We investigated a method of brief-interval staging combining LT and sleeve gastrectomy (SG).

Introduction: In cardiac and orthopedic surgery, elevated glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is a modifiable risk factor for postoperative complications. However, in bariatric surgery, there is insufficient evidence to assess the effectiveness of preoperative HbA1c assessment and its association with postoperative complications. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of HbA1c on early postoperative outcomes in bariatric surgery patients.

The problem of vitamin D deficiency is particularly relevant for the entire territory of Russia, since most parts of the country are located above the 42nd geographical latitude and the residents are therefore at risk of vitamin D deficiency. Despite the urgency of the problem, a comprehensive study of the molecular and genetic mechanisms and exogenous factors of vitamin D deficiency in children living in various geographical areas of the Russian Federation has not been conducted. Different variants in the loci of the genes responsible for the synthesis, hydroxylation, and transport of vitamin D (such as , and ), as well as gene polymorphisms may also be associated with the risk of vitamin D deficiency.

Objective: The mechanisms behind the efficacy of bariatric surgery (BS) for treating obesity and type 2 diabetes, particularly with respect to the influence of the small bowel, remain poorly understood. In vitro and animal models are suboptimal with respect to their ability to replicate the human intestinal epithelium under conditions induced by obesity. Human enteroids have the potential to accelerate the development of less invasive anti-obesity therapeutics if they can recapitulate the pathophysiology of obesity.
