Tibial plafond fractures are often associated with significant articular cartilage and soft tissue damage. The presence of co-morbidities has been associated with an increased risk of surgical site complications. With improved in surgical techniques and implants, complication rates have declined; however, the overall prognosis often remains poor.

The complex nature of ankle fractures is magnified when seen in patients at high risk of soft tissue wound healing complications. The major categories include associated soft tissue injury, diabetes, tobacco use, peripheral vascular disease, malnutrition, alcoholism, and corticosteroid use. Because of the potential for wound dehiscence and infection with open reduction and internal fixation of ankle fractures in these patients, minimally invasive procedures have been described.

Background: Fracture neck talus is a rare fracture represents about 1% of all fractures and usually due to high energy trauma. These fractures are usually associated with compromised soft tissues, concomitant skeletal fractures, or life threatening injuries. Talus has a tenuous blood supply which is affected by fracture displacement.

Background: Displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures remain a therapeutic challenge due to fracture complexity and different treatment options. One of the adverse effects of operative treatment is secondary damage to soft tissues. To avoid soft tissue complications, several less invasive procedures have been introduced.
