Background: While we strive to live with SARS-CoV-2, defining the immune response that leads to recovery rather than severe disease remains highly important. COVID-19 has been associated with inflammation and a profoundly suppressed immune response.

Objective: To study myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), which are potent immunosuppressive cells, in SARS-CoV-2 infection.

This study was performed to evaluate the effect of two commercially available serum-free culture media; serum free medium (SFM) and chemically defined medium (CDM), on the growth rate, antibody productivity and post adaptation cryopreservation and revival reactivity of hybridoma cells compared to the conventional serum based medium (SBM). In addition, the diagnostic efficacy of MAbs secreted in each culture medium was evaluated by testing their performance in sandwich ELISA for antigen detection. Anti- Schistosoma mansoni soluble egg antigen hybridoma cell line (7A/8F) secreting previously characterized IgG Kappa mAbs, were retrieved and propagated in each of the three aforementioned media.

Background: Neutralizing antibodies (NAbs) against SARS-CoV-2 infection have a pivotal role in protective immune response; however, their measurement requires specialized facilities. We evaluated the degree of correlation between NAbs and anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG/total Ig antibodies detected by chemiluminescent immunoassay in asymptomatic and previously symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 patients.

Methods: A total of 1241 participants (previously symptomatic patients and asymptomatic individuals), who were screened for SARS-CoV-2 infection by RT-PCR or serology, were enrolled in our study.

Background: Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is an important cause of acute kidney injury in children. It is primarily caused by dysregulation of the complement alternative pathway due to genetic mutations, mainly in complement factor H genes, or due to anti-factor H autoantibodies (anti-FH), leading to uncontrolled overactivation of the complement system. Early diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune HUS (AI-HUS) is essential and leads to a favorable outcome.

Background: Healthcare workers (HCWs) are a presumed high-risk population for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Identifying factors associated with seroprevalence can help establish better practices in healthcare settings. In this study, we evaluate prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection among previously undiagnosed HCWs and describe profiling of antibody responses against SARS-CoV-2, including neutralizing antibodies (NAbs).

Background: In Egypt, the characterization of Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD) is lacking.

Objectives: To determine the demographics, clinical features, aquaporin4 antibodies (AQP4-IgG) status, and neuroimaging of Egyptian NMOSD patients.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of 70 NMOSD patients' records from the MS clinic, Kasr Alainy hospital, between January 2013 and June 2018.

Background: Healthcare workers (HCWs) represent a high-risk category during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic crisis, with frontline HCWs at emergency departments (EDs) may be at an even higher risk. Determining the spread of infection among HCWs may have implications for infection control policies in hospitals. This study aimed to detect severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection among asymptomatic HCWs of the ED of a large tertiary center in Cairo, Egypt.

Background And Study Aims: Frontlines healthcare workers (HCWs) during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic are at increased risk of infection by SARS-CoV-2, but there are limited data on the prevalence of COVID-19 among HCWs in Egypt. This study aimed to assess SARS-CoV-2 infection among HCWs providing gastroenterological services.

Subjects And Methods: Seventy-four HCWs at the gastroenterological service of Al-Manial University Hospital, the main hospital of the largest tertiary university hospitals complex in Egypt (Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University) were tested using real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) on nasopharyngeal samples, and rapid serological IgM/IgG tests (RST).

Heterogeneity of Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) imposes limitations for their in vitro expansion and accounts for the lack of reproducibility in some clinical studies. So, this study was designed to isolate and enrich clones of multipotent and self-renewing MSCs from cord blood (CB). Enriched clones with higher proliferation and differentiation potential provide regenerative cells suitable for various clinical demands.

In the past few years, several genes were shown to be implicated in various forms of the Hyper Immunoglobulin E syndrome. The present study is the first to describe a cohort of DOCK8 deficiency patients from Egypt. The study included 15 patients with features of combined immunodeficiency (CID) suggestive of DOCK8 deficiency.

Background: Neonatal diabetes mellitus (NDM) is a monogenic form of diabetes mellitus. Until now, patients in developing countries who had this condition had been misdiagnosed as having type 1 diabetes mellitus and accordingly directed to erroneous, ineffective, and costly therapeutic regimens.

Objective: To detect Egyptian patients who harbor pathological variant in the KCNJ11 gene, so that their treatment regimen can be modified as needed to increase its effectiveness.
