Introduction: Cancer and cytotoxic chemotherapy used for its treatment predispose to severe and often fatal infections. Prompt diagnosis and timely antibiotic therapy are crucial, with delays in therapy initiation having high mortality. Complete blood count (CBC) is an inexpensive, standardized, and preliminary investigation for the management and follow-up of cancer patients with diagnostic and prognostic value.

Introduction: Data on age-related differences in rejection rates, infectious episodes, and tacrolimus exposure in pediatric kidney transplant recipients (pKTRs) on a tacrolimus-based immunosuppressive regimen are scarce.

Methods: We performed a large-scale analysis of 802 pKTRs from the Cooperative European Paediatric Renal Transplant Initiative (CERTAIN) registry from 40 centers in 14 countries. The inclusion criteria were a tacrolimus-based immunosuppressive regimen and at least 2 years of follow-up.

Article Synopsis
  • Genetic kidney disease is common in kids with ongoing microscopic blood in their urine, and this study looked for gene problems in young people over 10 years.
  • Out of 224 kids studied, over 68% had a gene variant linked to Alport syndrome, a condition that affects kidneys.
  • The findings suggest genetic testing should be done even if there's no family history of kidney issues, as many kids had no known family background of the disease.

Antimicrobial Photodynamic therapy for the treatment of periodontitis is being increasingly gaining attention but at present, very limited data are available on the clinical and microbiological outcomes obtained following Indocyanine Green as the photosensitizer in Maintenance patients. The objective was to evaluate the efficiency of Indocyanine(ICG)-green based photodynamic therapy as an adjunct to scaling and root planing in patients enrolled in maintenance therapy. Using a split mouth study design, 24 participants enrolled in the maintenance therapy, having diagnosed as Periodontitis, were randomly subjected to scaling and root planing(SRP).

Background: Alzheimer's disease is a serious and widespread neurodegenerative illness in the modern healthcare scenario. GSK-3β and BuChE are prominent enzymatic targets associated with Alzheimer's disease. Co-targeting GSK3β and BChE in Alzheimer's disease helps to modify disease progression and enhance cognitive function by addressing both tau pathology and cholinergic deficits.

Background: Education of '108' ambulance personnel involved in transporting neonates may improve outcomes. We assessed i) perceptions/practices of '108' ambulance personnel for transporting neonates, ii) clinical parameters of transported neonates at arrival, and iii) outcomes such as survival/mortality and NICU stay (before and after skill-based educational intervention).

Methods: We conducted a single-arm intervention study (pre-and post) over 18 months.

Background: Complement 3 glomerulopathy (C3G) and immune complex membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (IC-MPGN) are ultra-rare chronic kidney diseases with an overall poor prognosis, with approximately 40-50% of patients progressing to kidney failure within 10 years of diagnosis. C3G is characterized by a high rate of disease recurrence in the transplanted kidney. However, there is a lack of published data on clinical outcomes in the pediatric population following transplantation.

The global obesity pandemic has resulted in a rise in the prevalence of male obesity-related secondary hypogonadism (MOSH) with emerging evidence on the role of testosterone therapy. We aim to provide an updated and practical approach towards its management. We did a comprehensive literature search across MEDLINE ( PubMed), Scopus, and Google Scholar databases using the keywords "MOSH" OR "Obesity-related hypogonadism" OR "Testosterone replacement therapy" OR "Selective estrogen receptor modulator" OR "SERM" OR "Guidelines on male hypogonadism" as well as a manual search of references within the articles.

Introduction: We investigated the relationship between metabolic acidosis over time and allograft outcome in pediatric kidney transplantation (KTx).

Methods: This registry study collected data up to 10 years posttransplant. Survival analysis for a composite end point of graft loss or estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≤ 30 ml/min per 1.

Conventionally, immune responses are studied in the context of inflamed tissues and their corresponding draining lymph nodes (LNs). However, little is known about the effects of systemic inflammatory signals generated during local inflammation on distal tissues and nondraining LNs. Using a mouse model of cutaneous immunization, we found that systemic inflammatory stimuli triggered a rapid and selective distal response in the small intestine and the mesenteric LN (mesLN).

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) stands out as one of the most devastating and prevalent neurodegenerative disorders known today. Researchers have identified several enzymatic targets associated with AD among which Glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) and Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) are prominent ones. Unfortunately, the market offers very few drugs for treating or managing AD, and none have shown significant efficacy against it.

Super-bioavailable itraconazole (SB ITZ) overcomes the limitations of conventional itraconazole (CITZ) such as interindividual variability and reduced bioavailability. It has been approved for systemic mycoses in Australia and Europe as 50 mg and the USA as 65 mg and in India as 50 mg, 65 mg, 100 mg, and 130 mg. However, data on the ideal dose and duration of SB ITZ treatment in managing dermatophytosis are insufficient.

The World Health Organization (WHO) identified the importance of self-care interventions in achieving Universal Health Coverage in 2019. It urges every country to include self-care interventions in their policies and guidelines. To guide the countries in this process, it released guidelines in 2019 and revised them in 2022.

Onychomycosis (OM) is a difficult-to-treat condition, especially considering the limited armamentarium of antifungal drugs, need for prolonged treatment, and poor compliance. This problem is further confounded while treating OM in special populations such as children, elderly, immunosuppressed patients, pregnant or lactating women, and patients with chronic liver or kidney disease. In the absence of standardized treatment guidelines, the antifungal therapy is either withheld or compromised, as it is largely governed by personal preferences or based on anecdotal reports.

Background The calcineurin inhibitor, Tacrolimus (Tac), exhibits variable absorption and undergoes first-pass metabolism when administered orally. The narrow therapeutic window and individual variability of this immunosuppressive agent make therapeutic drug monitoring essential. We hypothesized that the Tac metabolism rate - defined as the blood concentration normalized by its daily dose (the C/D ratio) - is associated with post-renal transplant (RTx) function.

Background: The biocompatibility of 3D-printed dental resins has become a critical concern in modern dentistry due to the increasing utilization of additive manufacturing (AM) techniques in dental applications. These resins serve as essential materials for fabricating dental prostheses, orthodontic devices, and various dental components. As the clinical adoption of 3D printing in dentistry grows, it is imperative to comprehensively assess the biocompatibility of these materials to ensure patient safety and dental treatment efficacy.

Itraconazole (ITZ) has been the mainstay of oral antifungal treatment for the current epidemic of recalcitrant dermatophytosis (RD) in India. Recently, a newer formulation of ITZ, super bioavailable itraconazole (SUBA-ITZ), is made available in the market by many pharmaceutical companies. It is important for dermatologists to understand the pharmacokinetic properties of SUBA-ITZ vis-a-vis conventional pellet formulation to use it effectively and safely.
