Eusol (an abbreviation for Edinburgh University solution), consisting of aqueous boric acid and calcium hypochlorite, is widely used in the management of open wounds left to heal by secondary intention (1).

Severe ENL can become vesicular or bullous and break-down and is termed erythema necroticans (Jopling & McDougall, 1996) and is treated with corticosteroids. The causes of death in a majority of leprosy patients are the same as in the general population, with the exception of renal damage in lepromatous leprosy.

Purpose: Although MD-MPH programs exemplify the initiative for collaboration between schools of medicine and public health and address the expanding requirements for effective medical practice, information on such programs is scant. Perspectives and motivations of students enrolled in a 4-year MD-MPH program are explored to benefit existing and new programs as well as to inspire future research.
Summary: A questionnaire, based on previously identified themes, was mailed to all 110 students enrolled in the MD-MPH program at Tulane University.

Background: Exfoliative dermatitis (ED) can result in protein loss due to scaling causing a negative nitrogen balance. Freedberg and Baden (J Invest Dermatol 1962; 38: 277-284) estimated the amount of scale lost in ED by collecting it in an occlusive suit. Subsequently, the nitrogen content was determined by the Kjeldahl method.

We report 6 patients with histopathologically proven basal cell carcinoma of variable sizes treated with liquid nitrogen cryotherapy by the open spray technique. Lesions tended to heal with depigmentation and scar formation.

Using antibodies to known antigens present in the basement membrane zone, antigen mapping can be done by immuno fluorescence, to determine the level of blistering and establish the diagnosis. We report three cases of junctional EB and one case of dystrophic EB in whom the diagnosis was confirmed by antigen mapping.

Basal levels of IP3 were increased two- to threefold in dystrophic human and murine cell lines compared to normal cell lines. Potassium depolarization induced a time-dependent IP3 rise in normal human cells and cells of the myogenic mouse cell line (129CB3), which returned to their basal levels after 60 s.
