This study investigated a 'de Novo' medicinal herb, Ferula asafetida (FA), against toxoplasma encephalitis either alone or combined with spiramycin (SP). Female Swiss-Webster mice (n = 72) were divided into three batches. Batch-I received no DMS to serve as an immunocompetent control, batch-II was immune-suppressed with the DMS (0.

The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is caused by the highly contagious severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), was announced a pandemic in March 2020 by the World Health Organization. The disease can be diagnosed on the basis of clinical symptoms, polymerase chain reaction positivity, and the presence of ground-glass opacities on computed tomography (CT) scans. Recent studies have focused on the role of serum inflammatory markers that predict COVID-19, such as lymphocyte counts and C-reactive protein (CRP), homocysteine, and D-dimer levels.

Background: While neonatal jaundice is generally a common benign condition; severe hyperbilirubinemia has a devastating potential for brain injury.

Aim: To detect the impact of severe neonatal hyperbilirubinemia on motor and mental development and its progress over time in the first year of life using the Bayley scales of infant development (BSID) II.

Study Design And Patients: 177 term/near-term infants admitted for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia to the NICU of Cairo University Children's Hospital were enrolled.

Background: The normal relationship between the scrotum and penis during fetal development is controlled by several genetic and hormonal factors, and impairment of this positional relation results in a wide spectrum of positional congenital anomalies.

Objective: This a cohort study analysing 63 cases of penoscrotal anomalies (PSAs) according to severity and other associated malformations to provide a simple classification for recognising, describing and categorizing cases that may require surgical correction.

Design And Setting: Between 2005 and 2013, 63 diverse cases of penoscrotal positional anomaly were detected and analysed based on their hormonal profile and other associated anomaly.

Assessing trade in health services (TiHS) in developing countries is challenging since the sources of information are diverse, information is not accessible and professionals lack grasp of issues. A multi-country study was conducted in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR)--Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Tunisia, and Yemen. The objective was to estimate the direction, volume, and value of TiHS; analyze country commitments; and assess the challenges and opportunities for health services.

The activity of a novel enaminone derivative of 4-hydroxyquinoline, BDHQ, was screened for its effectiveness against murine schistosomiasis by electron microscopy and parasitologic studies. The correlation of these studies with serum levels of IFN-gamma and IgE is described. Two groups of 10 mice each were treated with different doses of BDHQ, and their results were correlated with the control and praziquantel (PZQ)-treated groups.

The effect of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor, such (as meloxicam, and pyocyanin pigment of Pseudomonas aeruginosa) with and without praziquantel (PZQ) on worms, ova count, bone marrow and blood cells in 7 groups of Schistosoma mansoni infected mice was studied. The results revealed significant decrease of worm burden and ova count in all treated groups as compared to the infected untreated group, while those with combined treatment of PZQ and meloxicam or pyocyanin showed complete eradication of the worm with the highest reduction in the tissue egg load. EM showed extensive swelling and vesiculation of the tegument, completely implanted spines that overlie degenerated muscle layer were obvious in groups treated with either meloxicam or pyocyanin.

Unlabelled: The discovery of the crude extract of Artemisia inculta (an Egyptian species of the Artemisia plant) for the therapy of schistosomiasis has evoked the study of its long-term toxicity produced by antischistosomal doses. Hence, an assessment of the noxious effects on bone marrow was attempted in this study. Transmission electron microscopy of the bone marrow was conducted on infected mice receiving a crude ethanolic extract from Artemisia inculta by newly designed dose regimens (500 or 800 mg/kg body weight in the 7th, 14th and 21st weeks post infection).

A quantitative analysis of germ-cell populations in normal, hypophysectomized (Hx), and Hx-hormone-treated animals was undertaken during periods of regression that were characterized as intermediate, between short-term and long-term regression of the testis. Twenty-one groups of adult rats were administered either follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), growth hormone, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), or testosterone (T) in various doses and combinations. The dosage of T administered was less than that expected to achieve maximum testis weight.

The potential for follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) to promote germ-cell survival and the cellular sites of FSH action were studied using a gonadally maturing (pubertal), hypophysectomized (Hx) rat model in which residual testosterone (T) activity was blocked by injections of an androgen-receptor antagonist, flutamide. Recombinant human FSH was given to androgen-deprived and androgen-blocked male rats at 27 days of age to determine maintenance of individual germ-cell types at 35 days of age. Follicle-stimulating hormone significantly increased testis weights and tubular diameters as compared with Hx and Hx-flutamide controls, although testis weights in FSH-treated animals were significantly lower than in pituitary-intact animals.
