Traditional reductions of alkenes, such as using stoichiometric reductants with waste generation and catalytic hydrogenation with high-pressure H, are accompanied by environmental or safety issues. Herein, we demonstrated a universal method for the electrocatalytic hydrogenation and deuteration of alkenes with modified electrodes under ambient temperature. The key M-H/M-D species for alkene reduction were generated from the electrolysis of HO/DO on modified electrodes, which avoided the usage of H and D.

Unsymmetrical ureas are commonly found in pharmaceuticals and bioactive compounds. However, devising strategies to introduce two distinct amines selectively in the construction of unsymmetrical ureas remains a challenge. In this work, we use a synchronous recognition strategy that takes advantage of radical and nucleophilic activation to discriminate between secondary and primary amines.

Background: Inhibition of kinases is the ever-expanding therapeutic approach to various types of cancer. Typically, assessment of the treatment response is accomplished by standard, volumetric imaging procedures, performed weeks to months after the onset of treatment, given the predominantly cytostatic nature of the kinase inhibitors, at least when used as single agents. Therefore, there is a great clinical need to develop new monitoring approaches to detect the response to kinase inhibition much more promptly.

Arylamines, serving as crucial building blocks in natural products and finding applications in multifunctional materials, are synthesized on a large scale via an electrophilic nitration/reduction sequence. However, the current methods for aromatic C-H amination have not yet attained the same level of versatility as electrophilic nitration. Here we show an extensively investigated transition metal-free and regioselective strategy for the amination of nitrobenzenes, enabling the synthesis of 4-nitro-N-arylamines through C(sp)-H/N-H cross-coupling between electron-deficient nitroarenes and amines.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists are studying how heat treatment (hyperthermia) can help fight nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) and why some cancer cells resist the heat.
  • They found that using heat with a drug called oridonin makes cancer cells easier to kill, especially the tough ones that don't respond well to regular treatments.
  • The study also discovered that a protein called Cirbp helps cancer cells survive heat, and reducing Cirbp improves the effectiveness of heat treatment against these cancer cells.

Precipitation nowcasting is mainly achieved by the radar echo extrapolation method. Due to the timing characteristics of radar echo extrapolation, convolutional recurrent neural networks (ConvRNNs) have been used to solve the task. Most ConvRNNs have been proven to perform far better than traditional optical flow methods, but they still have fatal problems.

As we show in this study, NAMPT, the key rate-limiting enzyme in the salvage pathway, one of the three known pathways involved in NAD synthesis, is selectively over-expressed in anaplastic T-cell lymphoma carrying oncogenic kinase NPM1::ALK (ALK + ALCL). NPM1::ALK induces expression of the NAMPT-encoding gene with STAT3 acting as transcriptional activator of the gene. Inhibition of NAMPT affects ALK + ALCL cells expression of numerous genes, many from the cell-signaling, metabolic, and apoptotic pathways.

The non-coplanar lasers on both sides of the rail during full-section rail profile measurement based on line-structured light vision will cause the measured profile to be distorted, resulting in measurement errors. Currently, in the field of rail profile measurement, there are no effective methods for evaluating laser plane attitude, and it is impossible to determine the degree of laser coplanarity quantitatively and accurately. This study proposes an evaluation method based on fitting planes in response to this problem.

Direct -allylation of azoles with hydrogen evolution has been achieved through the synergistic combination of organic photocatalysis and cobalt catalysis. The protocol bypasses stoichiometric oxidants and prefunctionalization of alkenes and produces hydrogen (H) as the byproduct. This transformation highlights high step- and atom-economy, high efficiency, and broad functional group tolerance for further derivatization, which opens a door for C-N bond formation that is valuable in heterocyclic chemistry.
