To evaluate the levels of YKL40, IL-6(interleukin-6), IL-8(interleukin-8), IL-10(interleukin-10), TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor-α) in OSAS (obstructive sleep apnea syndrome)children and explore the mechanism of YKL40 promoting inflammatory factors overexpression in tonsils. qPCR and ELISA were used to identify the expression of YKL40, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, and TNF-α in the tonsils of OSAS children. Primary tonsil lymphocytes (PTLCs) were cultured and recombinant human YKL40(rhYKL40)was used to stimulate PTLCs in different concentrations and at different time points.

Article Synopsis
  • This study collected data from over 35,000 COVID-19 patients in China to analyze the rates of olfactory (smell) and gustatory (taste) dysfunctions following infection.!
  • Findings revealed a 67.75% incidence rate of these dysfunctions, with factors like gender, smoking, vaccination doses, and oral health affecting both the likelihood of experiencing and recovering from these symptoms.!
  • On average, smell and taste scores declined significantly after infection but showed some recovery over time, with 59.16% of patients reporting improvement, though some experienced prolonged symptoms lasting over 28 days.!

Article Synopsis
  • A nationwide survey in China assessed how well otolaryngologists follow guidelines for managing allergic rhinitis (AR) and found that while most comply, a significant number adapt guidelines based on personal experience.
  • Out of 2142 responding doctors, 18.3% strictly adhered to guidelines, with 86.8% compliant with intranasal steroids, while concerns about medication efficacy and safety were prioritized over patient preferences.
  • The study concluded that educational background influences adherence to guidelines, suggesting that enhancing education could promote better compliance and consideration of patient preferences in treatment.

Heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) is the most common molecular chaperone that controls the maturation of many oncoproteins critical in tumor development. Hsp90 has been considered as a promising target for cancer treatment, but the clinical significance of Hsp90 and the mechanisms of Hsp90 regulating the tumor-promoting effects in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain obscure. Previous studies have shown that curcumin, a polyphenol derived from the plant turmeric (Curcuma longa), inhibits tumor growth, which may provide an effective alternative therapy for HCC.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and thoracic deformities in children by analyzing the medical records of 39 affected children compared to a control group of 39 children without deformities.
  • Key findings indicate that higher body mass index (BMI), apnea/hypopnea index (AHI), and lower oxyhemoglobin saturation levels, along with certain trace elements, are risk factors for developing thoracic deformities due to OSAS.
  • The research suggests that the breathing issues caused by OSAS should prompt healthcare professionals to closely monitor for potential thoracic deformities in pediatric patients.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is an epithelial malignancy usually associated with overexpression of both epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and β-catenin. FM807 is a novel curcumin analogue with antitumor activity against both poorly and well-differentiated NPC cell lines as well as good selectivity for tumor cells. FM807 actions were shown to include inhibition of cell growth, induction of necrotic/late apoptotic cell death, and G1 arrest in NPC cells.
