We report the thermoelectric properties of BiTe thin films electrodeposited from the weakly coordinating solvent dichloromethane (CHCl). It was found that the oxidation of porous films is significant, causing the degradation of its thermoelectric properties. We show that the morphology of the film can be improved drastically by applying a short initial nucleation pulse, which generates a large number of nuclei, and then growing the nuclei by pulsed electrodeposition at a much lower overpotential.

This research reports gold (Au) and platinum (Pt) nanocatalysts spatially confined in a porous carbon nanosphere as a new solar-driven carbon nanoreactor (CNR). The CNRs have confined size (≈100 nm), high specific surface area, and high thermal and electrical conductivity. The black color of CNR can improve the energy harvest efficiency of the solar irradiation to thermal energy within each nanoreactor.

It still remains challenge for expanding the photo-response range of TiO with dominant {0 0 1} facets due to the hardly achieving modification of the electronic structure without destroying the formation of TiO high energy facets. New methods for achieving high-quality conducting oxide metasurfaces are of great importance for a range of emerging applications from infrared thermal control coatings to epsilon-near-zero nonlinear optics. This work demonstrates the viability of plasma patterning as a technique to selectively and locally modulate the carrier density in planar Al-doped ZnO (AZO) metasurfaces without any associated topographical surface profile. This technique stands in strong contrast to conventional physical patterning which results in nonplanar textured surfaces.

Proton-linked monocarboxylate transporters (MCTs) must transport monocarboxylate efficiently to facilitate monocarboxylate efflux in glycolytically active cells, and transport monocarboxylate slowly or even shut down to maintain a physiological monocarboxylate concentration in glycolytically inactive cells. To discover how MCTs solve this fundamental aspect of intracellular monocarboxylate homeostasis in the context of multicellular organisms, we analyzed pyruvate transport activity of human monocarboxylate transporter 2 (MCT2).
