The efficacy of melatonin in reducing vasogenic and cytotoxic edema was investigated using a model of permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (pMCAO). Rats underwent pMCAO, followed by intravenous administration of either melatonin (5 mg/kg) or a vehicle 10 min post-insult. Brain infarction and edema were assessed, and Western blot analyses were conducted to examine the expression levels of aquaporin-4 (AQP4), metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), and the neurovascular tight-junction protein ZO-1 upon sacrifice.

Routine whole spine magnetic resonance imaging for patients with anorectal malformations.

To evaluate the necessity of performing whole spine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as opposed to solely lumbosacral MRI for detecting high-level spinal lesions (in the brain, cervical, or thoracic spine) in patients with anorectal malformations (ARM). This retrospective cohort study included 69 patients treated for ARM at a medical center between January 2011 and January 2022. Before March 2021, lumbosacral MRI was used for patients with ARM.

Animals were randomly divided into the control group, receiving normal saline, and experimental groups, receiving varying doses of EGb761 (25/50/100/200 mg/kg).

This study aims to elucidate the relationship between intestinal obstruction and carnitine deficiency in neonates and infants. We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 330 neonates and infants, younger than six months, who underwent surgery for intestinal obstruction at our institute from January 2009 to April 2022. The analysis focused on clinical symptoms, related signs, complications, and etiology of the intestinal obstruction.

In this study, we investigated the potential of porous silicon (PSi) modified with Au/TiO nanocomposites (NCPs) as a substrate for photoinduced enhanced Raman spectroscopy (PIERS). One-step pulsed laser-induced photolysis (PLIP) was used to embed Au/TiO NCPs in the surface of PSi. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that adding TiO nanoparticles (NPs) during PLIP led to the formation of predominantly spherical Au NPs with a diameter of approximately 20 nm.
