In the era of synthetic biology, design, construction, and utilization of synthetic chromosomes with unique features provide a strategy to study complex cellular processes such as aging. Herein, we successfully construct the 884 Kb synXIII of Saccharomyces cerevisiae to investigate replicative aging using these synthetic strains. In order to improve the emulsifying properties of soy protein around isoelectric point, soy protein isolate (SPI) and γ-polyglutamic acid (γ-PGA) complexes were prepared by electrostatic interaction. The formation of SPI-γ-PGA electrostatic complex and emulsifying properties were investigated by monitoring turbidity, zeta potential, intrinsic fluorophores, emulsion characterization, and microstructure observation. The results showed that the formation of SPI-γ-PGA electrostatic complex was identified through turbidimetric analysis and zeta-potential measurement.

Amorphous taro starch (TS)/whey protein isolate (WPI) mixtures were prepared using pasting treatment. Targeted therapy for lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) remains a challenge due to the lack of robust targets. Here, we identified MECOM as a candidate of therapeutic target for LUSC by screening 38 genes that were commonly amplified in three pairs of primary tumors and patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) using a clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-mediated approach. The short cycle life and safety concerns caused by uncontrollable dendrite growth have severely hindered the commercialization of lithium metal batteries. Here, a polycationic and hydrophobic polymer protective layer fabricated by a scalable tape-casting method is developed to enable air-stable, dendrite-free, and highly efficient Li metal anodes. The polymeric cations of poly(diallyl dimethyl ammonium) (PDDA) provide an electrostatic shielding effect that unifies Li flux at the surface of the Li anode and promotes a homogeneous Li plating, while the bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (TFSI) anions bring hydrophobic characteristics and improve moisture stability.

Lymph node metastasis is the major adverse feature for recurrence and death of thyroid cancer patients. To identify lncRNAs involved in thyroid cancer metastasis, we systemically screened differentially expressed lncRNAs in lymph node metastasis, thyroid cancer, and normal tissues via RNAseq. We found that lncRNA SLC26A4-AS1 was continuously, significantly down-regulated in normal tissues, thyroid cancer, and lymph node metastasis specimens.

Elucidating the effects of crystallization-induced blue-shift emission of a newly synthesized di-boron complex (DBC) by enhanced photoluminescence (PL) and electrochemiluminescence (ECL) in the annihilation pathway was realized for the first time. The 57 nm blue-shift and great enhancement in the crystalline lattice relative to the DBC solution were attributed to the restriction of intramolecular rotation (RIR) and confirmed by PL imaging, X-ray diffraction, as well as DFT calculations. It was discovered that ECL at crystalline film/solution interfaces can be further enhanced by means of both co-reactant route and RIR.
