The low interfacial toughness of the material surface is important for crack initiation and expansion of the ice layer as it remains an effective method for large-scale deicing. However, there are challenges, such as a large critical icing size and incomplete shedding of the ice layer. Adjusting the interfacial forces to make the ice more prone to cracking, expanding, and shedding is advantageous in addressing the problem of anti-icing failure in materials with low interfacial toughness.

Although it is known that prenatal maternal stress (PNMS) has a negative influence on nervous system development in offspring, there is no conclusive evidence clarifying its impact on early neurogenesis during development. In this study, we established a chick embryo model to investigate how PNMS affects early neurogenesis by mimicking an intrauterine environment with elevated dexamethasone levels. The results showed that dexamethasone-mimicked PNMS significantly suppressed the development of gastrula embryos and increased the risks of neural tube defects and cranial deformity.

To guarantee the secure functioning of the complete power system and minimize the risks associated with oil-filled transformers during their operation, it is greatly important to carry out gas sensing studies of dissolved gases in transformer research. Through the utilization of first-principles density functional theory calculations, the adsorption energy, electronic characteristics, and recuperation duration of ZrS modified with Sc and Ti were examined. The results show that compared to those of the initial ZrS material, the doping of TM atoms Sc and Ti significantly improved the adsorption properties of the material, and the adsorption of CO and CH showed chemisorption.

Peptide-based biofluorescents are of great interest due to their controllability and biocompatibility, as well as their potential applications in biomedical imaging and biosensing. Here, we present a simple approach to synthesizing full-color fluorescent nanomaterials with broad-spectrum fluorescence emissions, high optical stability, and long fluorescence lifetimes. By doping amino acids during the enzyme-catalyzed oxidative self-assembly of tyrosine-based peptides, we can precisely control the intermolecular interactions to obtain nanoparticles with fluorescence emission at different wavelengths.

Plasmids, as important genetic elements apart from chromosomes, often carry multiple resistance genes and various mobile genetic elements, enabling them to acquire more exogenous genes and confer additional resistance phenotypes to bacteria. Various carbapenem resistance genes are often located on IncN plasmids, and several reports have linked fusion plasmids to IncN plasmids. Therefore, this study aims to explore the emergence, molecular structure characteristics, and resistance features mediated by IncN fusion plasmids carrying multiple carbapenem resistance genes.

As a double-stranded RNA-editing enzyme and an interferon-stimulated gene, double-stranded RNA-specific adenosine deaminase (ADAR1) suppresses interferon signaling and contributes to immunotherapy resistance. Suppression of ADAR1 overcomes immunotherapy resistance in preclinical models, but has not yet been translated to clinical settings. By conducting a screening of a subset of the FDA-approved drugs, we found that all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA, also known as tretinoin) caused ADAR1 protein degradation through ubiquitin-proteasome pathways and concomitantly increased PD-L1 expression in pancreatic and breast cancers.
