Background: Malaria is causing high mortality and morbidity due to resistance to currently available anti-malarial drugs and mosquito's resistance to insecticides. Thus, there is a critical need to search for novel anti-malarial drugs from natural sources. Therefore, this study investigated in vivo antimalarial activities of two Ethiopian medicinal plants, Pax and Thonn, in infected Swiss albino mice.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to investigate the pain-relief and anti-inflammatory effects of a plant traditionally used in Ethiopia for headaches, abdominal pain, arthritis, and rheumatism, as previous ethnobotanical claims lacked scientific validation.
  • The researchers extracted leaves using 80% methanol and fractionated them into chloroform, ethyl acetate, and water, then tested these extracts for analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities through specific laboratory methods.
  • Results showed that all forms of the extract significantly reduced pain and inflammation in various tests, confirming the plant's effectiveness as a traditional remedy for pain and inflammatory issues.

Lam (Boraginaceae) is widely used in Ethiopian folk medicine for the treatment of different types of liver disorders. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the hepatoprotective effects of an aqueous (CAAE), 80% methanol extracts of stem bark (CAME), and the solvent fractions of the methanol extract against acetaminophen (APAP)-induced liver injury in rats. Acute toxicity test and APAP-induced lethality test were done on mice of either sex, while APAP dose selection test was done on female rats.

Background: In Ethiopia, Calpurnia aurea is used for the treatment of syphilis, malaria, rabies, diabetes, hypertension, diarrhoea, leishmaniasis, trachoma, elephantiasis, fungal diseases and different swellings. However, despite its traditional usage as an antidiarrhoeal and antimicrobial agent, there is limited or no information regarding its effectiveness and mode of action in diarrhoea which may be caused by Shigella flexneri, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi. Hence, we evaluated the 80% methanol (MeOH) extract of dried and powdered leaves of C.
