One in 7 US adults has knee osteoarthritis (OA) and almost two-thirds of them suffer from low back pain. OA is the third most rapidly rising condition associated with disability and leads to a significant burden on the healthcare system and society. This study looked at the healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) in patients with knee OA and low back pain before and after the utilization of a new, home-based, noninvasive, biomechanical intervention.

Research Question: To determine the concurrent validity of gait parameters obtained using the smartphone technology and application in a group of patients with musculoskeletal pathologies.
Methods: Patients with knee, lower back, hip, or ankle pain were included in the study (n = 72).
Background: Gait and cognitive impairments are common in individuals with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and can interfere with everyday function. Those with MS have difficulties executing cognitive tasks and walking simultaneously, a reflection of dual-task interference. Therefore, dual-task training may improve functional ambulation.

We aimed to improve the ability to objectively evaluate FOG severity by investigating the value of measuring the duration of the test and its components. Seventy-one patients with PD and FOG completed a previously validated FOG-provoking test.

A thorough investigation of gait alterations during community ambulation and their contributing factors, however, is lacking.

We aimed to determine which gait features become worse during sustained walking and to examine the clinical correlates of gait fatigability in pwMS. Fifty-eight pwMS performed the 6-min walk test while wearing body-fixed sensors.

Methods: Fifty-seven PD patients without FOG at baseline were re-evaluated after a mean of five years.
: To examine the feasibility and efficacy of a combined motor-cognitive training using virtual reality to enhance behavior, cognitive function and dual-tasking in children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). : Fourteen non-medicated school-aged children with ADHD, received 18 training sessions during 6 weeks. Training included walking on a treadmill while negotiating virtual obstacles.

At follow-up, 38% were still considered TD. At baseline the TD non-convertors had more years of education and better cognitive function than the convertors and significantly smaller deterioration in gait, balance, cognitive function and other non-motor symptoms.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAmong patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), a wide range of motor and non-motor symptoms (NMS) are evident. PD is often divided into tremor dominant (TD) and postural instability gait difficulty (PIGD) motor subtypes. We evaluated the effect of disease duration and aimed to characterize whether there are differences in the deterioration of cognitive function and other NMS between the PIGD and TD subtypes.
