In the context of drug-resistant epilepsy, deep brain stimulation (DBS) has received FDA approval. However, there have been reports of potential adverse effects, such as depression and memory impairment associated with DBS.This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the impact of DBS on the quality of life (QoL), and seizure frequency of patients who had DRE, and assess its potential adverse events.

Background: Pyridoxamine 5'-phosphate oxidase deficiency is a rare inborn error of vitamin B metabolism that presents with drug-resistant epileptic seizures. However, the condition is responsive to supplementation with the active vitamin B metabolite pyridoxal 5'-phosphate and, in some cases, pyridoxine.

Case Presentation: In this case report, a 10-year-old Iranian male of Fars ethnicity came to a regional hospital in Tehran, Iran with a chief complaint of tic-like movement.

Introduction: There has been increased interest in the use of Statins in total hip and knee arthroplasty (THA and TKA) patients to improve outcomes and reduce postoperative complications. This study was performed to systematically review the evidence on Statin use in total joint arthroplasty, specifically its benefits and complications.

Methods: Adhering to the PRISMA guidelines, a systematic review of PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and the Cochrane database was performed to find studies reporting on the effects of Statin use on outcomes of THA and TKA.

Purpose: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to identify risk factors of dislocation after total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH).

Methods: A systematic literature review was performed on 18th August 2022 using Medline, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science electronic databases, and a manual search. The study was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines and registered with PROSPERO.

Background: There is evidence of the occurrence of headache after vaccination against COVID-19. However, only a few studies have examined the headache characteristics and related determinants, especially among healthcare workers with a history of COVID-19 infection.

Methods: We evaluated the incidence of headaches after injection of different types of COVID-19 vaccine to determine factors relating to the incidence of headache after vaccination among the Iranian healthcare workers who had previously contracted COVID-19.

Background: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is increasingly common in younger patients, who are more likely to be working preoperatively. There is a need for an updated review of the literature regarding the rate and time to return to work (RTW), which is important when counseling patients, and also from an economic standpoint.

Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature was performed on January 20, 2022, and studies reporting the rate and/or time to RTW after THA were included.

Background: Forgotten Joint Score (FJS) is a patient-reported outcome measurement that evaluates patients' ability to forget the replaced joint (knee or hip) in everyday activity. This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Persian version of this questionnaire in Iranian patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty.

Methods: A team of specialists reviewed this questionnaire and voted for its clarity and content validity.

Background: COVID-19 has become a pandemic since December 2019, causing millions of deaths worldwide. It has a wide spectrum of severity, ranging from mild infection to severe illness requiring mechanical ventilation. In the middle of a pandemic, when medical resources (including mechanical ventilators) are scarce, there should be a scoring system to provide the clinicians with the information needed for clinical decision-making and resource allocation.

Objective: Recently, strong evidences were obtained on the association between low pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) levels in the first trimester and poor outcomes of pregnancy.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on all pregnant women who were referred to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic at Imam Hossein Hospital in Tehran, Iran in 2014. Women were asked to attend clinical examinations and screening at 11-14 weeks of gestation.

Article Synopsis
  • Pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) levels lower than 0.4 multiples of the median (MoMs) in the first trimester are linked to an increased risk of neonatal abnormalities, particularly small for gestational age (SGA).
  • A study involving 8,460 pregnant women found that those with low PAPP-A levels had higher mean age, lower gestational age, and lower birth weight, compared to those with higher levels.
  • The research determined that a PAPP-A level of 0.25 MoMs was the best cutoff for predicting SGA, with a sensitivity of 84.7% and specificity of 68.6%.

Background: Along with the description of tumorigenesis processes in endometriosisrelated ovarian cancer, identifying dysregulated miRNAs, the target genes of these miRNAs, and the processes abnormally affected by dysregulated miRNAs is essential, which was our goal.

Methods: Two reviewers individually evaluated the articles which collected relevant information including genes and miRNAs involved in the transformation of endometriosis into ovarian cancer. To assess the mature sequence of miRNAs and also their chromosomal positions, miRPathDB software was employed.

Background: Contradictory results have been obtained regarding the role of integrin, beta 3 (ITGB3) gene polymorphisms in occurrence of myocardial infarction (MI).

Objectives: We aimed to assess the association between 1565C/T polymorphism of ITGB3 gene and increased risk for acute MI in patients with premature coronary artery disease (CAD).

Material And Methods: Our study included 1000 premature CAD patients that classified into two groups with history of MI (n = 461) and without of MI (n = 539).

Background: Tranexamic acid (TXA), a synthetic antifibrinolytic drug, is effective as a treatment for serious hemorrhage, including bleeding arising from major trauma and post-operative interventions. Significant acute gastrointestinal bleeding may have a poor outcome despite routine medical and endoscopic treatments. The aim of this study was to assess whether early intravenous and/or intravenous plus topical administration of TXA reduces the need for urgent endoscopy for acute gastrointestinal bleeding.

The C1019T polymorphism of the connexin-37 (GJA4) gene is a single-nucleotide polymorphisms involved in atherosclerotic plaque rupture and atherosclerosis predisposition. We examined the association between the C1019T polymorphism of the GJA4 gene and the occurrence of myocardial infarction (MI) in patients with premature coronary artery disease (CAD). Our study recruited 1000 patients with the final diagnosis of premature CAD and classified them into 2 groups: with a history of MI (n = 461) and without it (n = 539).
