From union clout to corporate couture: Unveiling the impact of trade unions on corporate social responsibility.

Trade unions and corporate social responsibility (CSR) are important institutional mechanisms through which corporations undertake responsibility for their for-profit as well as not-for-profit actions. This study explores the roles of trade unions, management, and shareholders in influencing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) controversies and CSR reporting. Drawing on instrumental stakeholder theory, we argue that while management and shareholders typically focus on governance, profitability, and operational efficiency, trade unions act as critical relational stakeholders advocating for employee welfare and social sustainability.

Self-management interventions for men with lower urinary tract symptoms: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Introduction: Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) significantly impact men's quality of life and can cause bothersome symptoms, which often interfere with daily functioning and contribute to psychological distress. While pharmacological and surgical treatments are effective, they can have side effects, and not all men require or desire these interventions. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of self-management interventions on symptom severity.

Inferior rectus muscle detachment during strabismus surgery has a major effect on anterior segment perfusion, as shown by LSCI perfusion monitoring.

Background: Anterior segment ischaemia (ASI) is a rare but feared complication associated with strabismus surgery, arising from damage of the anterior ciliary arteries that run along the extraocular rectus muscles. It has been reported that the risk of ASI following strabismus surgery increases when the vertical rectus muscles are involved. The aim of the present study was to monitor anterior segment perfusion in real time during inferior rectus muscle surgery.

Tomographic ultrasound imaging of the anophthalmic socket for future 3D printing of ocular prostheses.

Purpose: There is a need for a simple, non-invasive, and easily accessible 3D imaging technique for the anophthalmic socket to create imaging data for future 3D printing of prostheses. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of using a novel handheld tomographic ultrasound for 3D mapping of the anophthalmic socket.

Methods: Ten anophthalmic sockets were scanned using a tomographic ultrasound system and the results were compared to CT scanned impression molds from the same sockets.

This Randomized control trial was conducted at the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department, PMC Dental institute, Faisalabad Medical University, Faisalabad, Pakistan, from 6th April 2018 to 6th April 2019.

A Novel Type of Autosomal Dominant Episodic Nystagmus Segregating with a Variant in the FRMD5 Gene.

To describe the phenotype of a novel form of autosomal dominant episodic nystagmus and to identify the potential genetic aetiology. We identified several individuals in a large Swedish family affected by episodic nystagmus. In total, 39 family members from five generations were invited to participate in the study, of which 17 were included (12 affected and 5 unaffected).

Redesigning telemedicine: preliminary findings from an innovative assisted telemedicine healthcare model.

Background: Telemedicine holds immense potential to revolutionise healthcare delivery, particularly in resource-limited settings and for patients with chronic diseases. Despite proven benefits and policy reforms, the use of telemedicine remains low due to several patient, technology, and system-level barriers. Assisted telemedicine employs trained health professionals to connect patients with physicians, which can improve access and scope of telemedicine.

Are Positive Biopsy Margins in Melanoma Significant?: A Cohort Study of Micro- Versus Macroscopic Margin Status and Their Impact on Residual Disease and Survival.

Background: Presence of positive biopsy margins in melanoma can provoke anxiety over potential disease progression from delays to surgical excision, but their impact on outcomes is unknown. We aimed to compare the presence of residual melanoma in the surgical excision specimen and survival between patients with negative, microscopically positive, and macroscopically positive biopsy margins.

Methods: Patients with cutaneous melanoma who underwent surgical excision over a 13-year period were included.

In vivo and computational investigation of butin against alloxan-induced diabetes via biochemical, histopathological, and molecular interactions.

Herbs have been used as medicines since antiquity, and it has been discovered that the human body responds well to herbal remedies. Research on the effect of butin was conducted in the current study in the alloxan-induced diabetic rat paradigm. A total of 30 Wistar rats were randomly assigned into the following groups (n = 6): I-Normal; II-Alloxan-induced (50 mg/kg); III-Alloxan + butin 25 mg/kg; IV-Alloxan + butin 50 mg/kg; V-Butin per se 50 mg/kg.

Background/aims: It is unclear whether a reduction in tear secretion contributes to the discomfort experienced by those with prosthetic eyes. Tear secretion has hitherto only been measured with the Schirmer test which may be affected by the pooling of tears behind the prosthesis. In this study, direct imaging of the lacrimal gland has been performed to measure tear secretion in anophthalmic sockets.

Background: Methamphetamine (MA) is well recognized as a psychostimulant that can cause neurotoxicity and neurodegeneration, which is associated with cognitive decline, has been confirmed experimentally.

Objective: The research aimed to investigate the neuroprotective properties of europinidin (Eu) in rodents affected by methamphetamine (MA)-induced cognitive impairments and hippocampal alterations. This was achieved by inhibiting lipid peroxidation and pro-inflammatory markers.

Benign splenic lesions in BAP1-tumor predisposition syndrome: a case series.

BAP1-Tumor Predisposition Syndrome (TPDS) is caused by germline variants in BAP1 and predisposes to solid tumors. After observation of a radiologically malignant-appearing splenic mass with benign pathology in a patient with BAP1-TPDS, we sought to retrospectively characterize splenic lesions in individuals with BAP1-TPDS seen at a comprehensive cancer center. A dedicated radiology review for splenic abnormalities was performed.

Objective: Malvidin is a natural, biologically active polyphenol found in several fruits. It exhibits several therapeutic benefits; however, limited studies are available on its effects on neurodegenerative clinical conditions, including Parkinson's disease. The study aimed to investigate the therapeutic properties of malvidin on rotenone-triggered Parkinson's disease in an animal model.

Revolutionizing Glucose Monitoring: Enzyme-Free 2D-MoS Nanostructures for Ultra-Sensitive Glucose Sensors with Real-Time Health-Monitoring Capabilities.

The growing requirement for real-time monitoring of health factors such as heart rate, temperature, and blood glucose levels has resulted in an increase in demand for electrochemical sensors. This study focuses on enzyme-free glucose sensors based on 2D-MoS nanostructures explored by simple hydrothermal route. The 2D-MoS nanostructures were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and XPS techniques and were immobilized at GCE to obtain MoS-GCE interface.
