Introduction: Adrenergic activation of protein kinase A (PKA) in cardiac muscle targets the sarcolemma, sarcoplasmic reticulum, and contractile apparatus to increase contractile force and heart rate. In the thin filaments of the contractile apparatus, cardiac troponin I (cTnI) Ser22 and Ser23 in the cardiac-specific N-terminal peptide (NcTnI: residues 1 to 32) are the targets for PKA phosphorylation. Phosphorylation causes a 2-3 fold decrease of affinity of cTn for Ca associated with a higher rate of Ca dissociation from cTnC leading to a faster relaxation rate of the cardiac muscle (lusitropy).

Developmental neuronal remodeling is extensive and mechanistically diverse across the nervous system. We sought to identify Drosophila pupal neurons that underwent mechanistically new types of neuronal remodeling and describe remodeling Beat-VaM and Beat-VaL neurons. We show that Beat-VaM neurons produce highly branched neurites in the CNS during larval stages that undergo extensive local pruning.

The pro-degenerative NAD hydrolase dSarm/SARM1 can act as a metabolic sensor by detecting pathological changes in NAD /NMN and subsequently induce catastrophic axon degeneration. Hypoglycemia in the absence of diabetes is often multifactorial and challenging to diagnose definitively. We present a case report and an expanded series of adult females with reactive hypoglycemia who were diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). Functional dyes that are capable of both bright fluorescence and efficient singlet oxygen generation are crucial for theranostic techniques, which integrate fluorescence imaging and photodynamic therapy (PDT). Objective: To describe the validation and reliability assessment of a rubric designed to assess the participants' teaching portfolios and identify teaching excellence among teaching and learning curriculum (TLC) program participants.

Methods: Following focus groups with program leadership at a single TLC program, an initial rubric was developed, consisting of criteria mapped to 5 domains, to be rated on a 4-point scale. Neurons and glia work together to dynamically regulate neural circuit assembly and maintenance. In this study, we show exhibit large-scale synapse formation and elimination as part of normal CNS circuit maturation, and that glia use conserved molecules to regulate these processes. Using a high throughput ELISA-based screening assay, we identify new glial genes that regulate synapse numbers in including the scavenger receptor ortholog Croquemort (Crq).

Impulsive decision-making, particularly during states of affective intensity, is associated with greater risk of engagement in self-injurious thoughts and behaviors (SITBs) during adolescence. The proximal (dyadic parent-adolescent affect and impulsivity) and distal (family history of SITBs) risk factors that occur within the family system could be relevant processes at stake in the intergenerational transmission of risk. The current study tests the interdependence of parent-adolescent factors associated with risk for SITBs and probes the extent to which parent-adolescent affective states influence their own (actor-effects) and each other's (partner-effects) impulsive decision-making, and further whether these relationships are moderated by a parent's history of SITBs.

Most studies of adolescent and adult behavior involved one age group of each, whereas the dynamic changes in brain development suggest that there may be behavioral flux in adolescence. In two studies, we investigated developmental changes in social reward motivation in female and male Long-Evans rats from prepuberty to early adulthood in a social operant conditioning task. Given the earlier onset of puberty in females than in males, we predicted the course of social reward development would differ between the sexes.

This study addressed the scarcity of NH measurements in urban Europe and the diverse monitoring protocols, hindering direct data comparison. Sixty-nine datasets from Finland, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK across various site types, including industrial (IND, 8), traffic (TR, 12), urban (UB, 22), suburban (SUB, 12), and regional background (RB, 15), are analyzed to this study. Among these, 26 sites provided 5, or more, years of data for time series analysis.

It is suggested that in addition to seismicity deep fluid injection may cause surface uplift and subsidence in oil and gas-producing regions. This study uses the Raton Basin as an example to investigate the hydromechanical processes of surface uplift and subsidence during wastewater injection. The Raton Basin, in southern central Colorado and northern central New Mexico, has experienced wastewater injection related to coalbed methane and gas production starting in 1994.

Astrocytes play crucial roles in regulating neural circuit function by forming a dense network of synapse-associated membrane specializations, but signaling pathways regulating astrocyte morphogenesis remain poorly defined. Here, we show the Drosophila lipid-binding G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) Tre1 is required for astrocytes to establish their intricate morphology in vivo. The lipid phosphate phosphatases Wunen/Wunen2 also regulate astrocyte morphology and, via Tre1, mediate astrocyte-astrocyte competition for growth-promoting lipids.
